MSNBC took denigrating Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to a new low on Thursday night's Countdown. With BREAKING NEWS ridiculously on screen, MSNBC ended the show, hosted by David Shuster filling in for Keith Olbermann, with more than three minutes of video of some turkeys being slaughtered by a man behind Palin while rotating chyrons hyperbolically declared:
GOV. PALIN PICKS WORST POSSIBLE BACKDROP FOR TV NEWS INTERVIEW
TURKEYS DIE AS GOVERNOR PALIN TAKES QUESTIONS FROM MEDIA
GOV. SARAH PALIN KEEPS TALKING WHILE TURKEYS GET SLAUGHTERED BEHIND HER
GOV. PALIN APPARENTLY OBLIVIOUS TO TURKEY CARNAGE OVER HER SHOULDER
GOV. PALIN NOT REALIZING INCONGRUITY OF HER WORDS VERSUS HER BACKDROP
TURKEY-KILLING FOWLS PALIN NEWS CONFERENCE
The video aired after MSNBC ran a story on Palin's pre-Thanksgiving pardoning of a turkey at a Wasila poultry farm. Shuster, quite serious, set up the segment with this warning:
We've made every effort to sanitize the video of what happens next, but you still might want to consider getting the kids out of the room right now and anyone who's a little squeamish about where Thanksgiving dinner comes from. Are they gone? Okay, here's what happened next: As Governor Palin stepped outside of the hatchery, to give a post-pardon interview, she neglected to notice what was happening directly behind her -- in clear view of the television cameras. We've blurred out the goriest parts, but here's her interview, from start to finish. Afterward, Shuster asserted:
And you thought her media outings as a vice presidential candidate were as bad as it gets.

You say something, sweetie? Nope, didn’t think so...
Maybe she doesn’t want any future political viability. Maybe she’s said to herself, I’ve seen the trash that poses as human beings inside the beltway and I want no part of that.
Show me the $7 million book deals and give me a fox news show after my term as governor is up.
There are many avenues where she can do a lot of good. It doesn’t have to be as president.
And 2012 will only be viable for her if in 3 years we are in just as bad or god forbid worse shape than we are now. Otherwise, Obama will be given all sorts of credit for any recovery in the economy as part of the natural economic cycle and will be unbeatable.
If she wants to run for President, 2016 after two terms as governor in an open election because biden will be too old to run is her best bet.
I rather she wait until 2016 than become a sacrificial lamb in 2012.
Challenging an incumbent with the media so clearly in the tank for is not.
Please — the video behind her is not the outrage, regardless. What is outrageous, those remarks that were running on the chiron below on MSNBC. Completely juvenile for a so-called professional journalistic outlet. No excuse whatever, I don’t care Gov. Palin’s response to the silly pardoning of the turkey these people do.
GOOD FOR HER.
‘bout time some political leader showed the “pardoning of the turkey” for what it is: a farce! Way too many people feel good about the “pardoning”, and then merrily dine on the carcass of what wasn’t pardoned - totally failing to realize both the hypocricy and reality.
The truly sad part is that you think you are clever.
There. Fixed it for ya.
I’ve thought about that too. She seems like she has a happy life in AK; so much so that I think DC would in fact change her as it does for most people.
I think she may have already made the decision it isn’t worth it.
I am conservative. I am also a vegetarian and do not like to see animals suffer.
So does this make me ignorant?
They said she was told about the background and asked if she wanted to move the interview away from the scene behind her and she said no.
Palin, who called the pardoning experience “neat” was reportedly told by the station videographer what was going on behind her, but allowed the interview to continue.

If you wish to apply the term to yourself, when obviously I wasn’t, be my guest.
And so what?
Seriously, who cares?
Are you going to be talking about this a year from now or even remember it?
Will I be talking about this a year from now? Of course not.
But does it affect my opinon of her judgement? Absolutely.
I like her views for the most part, but I don’t understand what she is thinking agreeing to give the interview in front of an active meat grinder table during a light-hearted Turkey pardonning event. Definitely bad judgement, IMO. Something like this won’t make me totally abandon her as a political figure moving forward, but then again, I don’t think she will be much of a presence in 4 or 8 years. I think we are moving towards highly competent conservatives like Jindal anyway.
It appears that he was also draining the blood from the carcass as well.
Even if true, that doesn't contradict anything stated in my post.
Well, that’s your opinion.
If she decided to run for president, she’ll have 18 months to prove herself or flounder in the spotlight.
That’s the process.
I’d rather watch a turkey being beheaded than watch congress debate a bill ...
Not for me to judge. I am glad she is NOT living for the MSM or political future. If she makes it fine. I have faith in her. Maybe it is time for Californians to understand what they eat or go veggie. I had no problems listening to her.
During WW 2,like a lot of people we raised chickens, turkeys ducks and rabbits for the meat we couldn’t buy at the store(OPA). We gave our fowl the choice of axe or neck wringing. My uncle a real butcher did the axe my 70 year old Grandmother did the wringing,LOL. My dad did the rabbits with a rap on the back of the head.
They all tasted better than what you buy in the stores today.
