“The Constitution does not prohibit a non-citizen or an ineligible citizen from running for POTUS. It only makes him ineligible to take the office. “

Indeed, there is a Nicaraguan non-citizen (Roger Calero) who runs for POTUS every election as a World Socialist or something. He gets on some state ballots, not on others, and he has a “proxy” stand in in other states. He cannot become president, but can run (bizarre, but he is a leftist after all).

You do not have to be a citizen to get on the ballot for POTUS because the person on the ballot is simply the person who gets to pick the electors that go to the electoral college.

Thus a 21 year old Nicaraguan should be eligible to be on the ballot for president and that person can then pick the electors to go to the electoral college and vote for someone who IS eligible.

Obama is not yet "The President Elect". He will not be "The President Elect" until after the electoral college votes.

I think it is imperative that his eligibility to take the office be cleared up before the electoral college votes. If Obama is not eligible, then he can direct his electors to vote for whoever he wants to be president. Just not himself.

thx for explaining that. I've seen the references to Calero, but had no idea what they meant. I really find it hard to believe that in all these years, no president has been verified as eligible before being sworn in. Or when the states give them their votes.
