"i will say it bugs my arse to no end that we live within our means and now have to bail out credit card holders who did not have enough common sense to stay on budget."

There it is in a nutshell CanadianMusherinMI. Good for you that you don't habitually use credit. I live a relatively simple life style myself but I like it that way and I am beholden to no man and am quite comfortable. As for the debit cards; I mainly worry about my every purchase being tracked and how that information could be used by the Marxist cretins in government. I think I'm going to go all cash in the near future.

i order a fair amount of books and cds from BandN and amazon.com, but i use a prepaid visa gift card, s’pose they could track me just as easily that way. at best they would find my reading material and music to be confusing;)
i was considering a debit card because some stores take your check (no need to fill it out)run it through a computer and give it back to you. this makes me very uncomfortable and i have been told it will become more common place. :-/

I have had the same thought about the potential traceability of what I purchase over the net. This no longer feels like my country. Frredom is a thing of the past.
