Huck unloads on Mitt; Romney camp hits back

Mike Huckabee is using his new book, out this week, to settle a few scores, not the least of which is with his fierce primary rival, Mitt Romney.

Per Michael Scherer, Huckabee picks up where he left off earlier this year, tweaking Romney as a rich guy and firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.

Romney, Huckabee, writes, was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

At another point, Huckabee portrays a Romney proposal to encourage more investment in the market as, "Let them eat stocks!”

The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at Fred Thompson – who ensured his defeat in the pivotal South Carolina primary – as well as those evangelical leaders who didn’t get behind his bid.

But none of these people may emerge again in four years as political rivals of Huckabee.

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.

“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

Huckabee’s book is intended to pimp on his FOXNews show - the new Lawrence Welk of Saturday night viewing.

Huck hit Mitt every which way he could. I remember Krauthammer writing about Huck’s hit on Mitt’s mormonism.

Talk about changing positions at the last minute, Huck did that on illegal immigration at the last nanosecond, totally reverse what he did as governor when he was their very best friend.

Huckabee would be registered at Target to decorate said box and Mitt would have an illegal sweeping the sidewalk in front of it. Obama would have given the box to Al Qaeda without a fight.

You made me spit out my Lionshead (cheap) beer.

We’ll both stay out.

Frankly, bickering about the relative merits of any past
past candidate is a real eye-roller for me.

Don’t we have bigger fish to fry?

These two guys have as much relevance as two homeless guys fighting over a cardboard box.

Maybe they'll destroy each other... if we're lucky.

Huckabee seems like a nice guy.... but when it comes to politics he’s a snake in the grass.

And how sad is the Republican Party when their top three Presidential candidates were:

Juan McAmnesty aka McCarbon Credit aka Sen. No Drilling in ANWR aka The guy that created campaign finance law that let Obama collect millions from foreign individuals.

Mitt Romney aka Palin Hater aka The man that was for abortion before he was against it aka Gov. of Socialized Healthcare.

Mike Huckleberry aka Free College for illegals aka Gov. Pardon a thousand criminal thugs aka I was for high taxes and big government before I was for the Fair Tax.

Boy that is so true. The Huckster is disgusting!!! The more he makes a fool of himself the more people will learn the true Huckster. If politics weren’t so important he would be funny, but instead he is a sad pathetic fugly person along with that family of his.

LOL.

This is the kind of stuff from Huckabee that kept me from being able to support him during the primaries. It is exactly who he is.

If the republican party has proven one thing over the past 14 years, it is that they are failures. The only thing that they have succeeded in is failing. Huckabee is a failure, and so is Romney. In fact, The ranks of talent and leadership in the republican party are SO THIN that the party may as well not even exist.

The last shred of hope I saw in this party was Sarah Palin. I want her to run in 2012, but I do not want her to run republican. I would rather this decent woman not be molested by the repugnant stench of failure that is now the dying, politically cannibalistic republican party, which stands for absolutely nothing whatsoever.

I believe that it is time for us conservatives to let this god-awful, intentionally deceptive, and totally worthless party die. I am not even sure that this party can be considered “democrat lite”. Sometimes it seems that they are literally WORSE than democrats, especially when you consider their sniveling, their constant eating of their own, and their total lack of loyalty to each other and to their base voters. This country needs a party that visibly stands for freedom and the Constitution. I have come to be utterly diZgusted with the republican party. Huckleberry, Romney, Christopher Shays, McCain, Grahamnesty, Coleman, and any other snot-nosed RINO that I failed to remember can all go to Hell! I will never support any of them for anything. /rant.

How sad are you?

Agreed, Romney would have been much better in debates and TV overall. He could actually voice a distinct position on tax cuts and spending.

The Huckster is more responsible for the nomination of McCain than anyone. He came from nowhere out of Iowa with a head of steam that took all the more conservative candidates out, leaving McCain. I am not saying the Huckster was not a good candidate, but, the perception was that he was a clown and not a serious presidential candidate, more a Pat Paulson than a Lincoln.
