Jon & Kate are doing their children no favors By Mark A. Perigard
TLCs favorite fertile couple renews their vows tonight.
But this wedding may have some viewers raising objections.
As the episode opens, the Gosselin clan - parents Jon and Kate, twins Mady and Cara and the 4-year-old sextuplets - are vacationing in Maui.
The parents hammer out a renewal ceremony. The girls go for pedicures. Jon meets with relatives he hasnt seen in several years.
Even by Jon & Kate standards, it makes for a slim show.
Why do the couple feel the urgent need to renew their vows after only nine years of marriage? Kate tells the camera that she wants her kids to know that while not all moms and dads stay together, she and Jon are forever.
As the ceremony later demonstrates, not even the oldest girls understand the ceremonys significance, and the youngest surely will forget it.
This cynic is forced to conclude the wedding event is a way to capitalize on a free vacation in Maui.
Jon & Kate has become increasingly about the freebies the Pennsylvania family can gather. The visits to increasingly far-flung destinations are nothing more than travel infomercials, with the kids as adorable props. Jons morning on a golf course here is a chore to the eyes, but he dutifully plugs the management in his armchair confessional.
If were rewarding people on the basis of fertility, shouldnt the prizes go to the least blessed?
Yes, its kind of horrible the way Kate talks to Jon as if hes one of the 4-year-olds.
As he samples wedding cakes tonight, Kate tells the wedding planner, Ill try what he decides. And then Ill argue, if he decides wrong.
But as my favorite relationship coach - that would be Judge Judy - would say, he picked her. Save your concern for the children.
Mady, for example, almost has a meltdown when her mother expects her to be her maid of honor. Is she just another reality show witch? No, shes just an 8-year-old, having a perfectly normal moment for a child - that is being broadcast to millions of homes.
The younger kids have been trailed by cameras for almost their entire lives. What does that do to a childs perception of the world and his or her importance in it?
The kids might not mind the cameras following them now, but theyll probably feel differently in about 10 years when their high school classmates can download footage of their potty training to their iPods.
Imagine having all your worst moments from childhood available to anyone who wanted to see them for the rest of your life.
Thats what the Gosselin children face.
Maybe its time for Jon and Kate to drive the cameras out of the home for some quality family time.
“You really are a disgusting pig. If they want to have 35 kids its none of your business. They seen to love and take care of their children very well. Certainly better than a lot of families I know that only have one kid”
Because I don’t sugar coat it. More power to them, but a womans body can only take so much, she is putting herself in danger with every pregnancy. Now number 18 on the way. This has nothing to do with their beliefs, I applaud there faith, just not this aspect of it.
So, if you were acquitted of a crime after your defense attorney destroyed the prosecution's forensic evidence on cross-examination, you would want me comparing you to OJ Simpson? Really?
Sure the Roloff's aren't perfect...but I never sad they were. In fact, I think that was my point.
You must NOT watch it a lot. The older boys get lousy grades and break the law. I believe the father was arrested last year for DUI.
__________________________
Matt was not found guilty on the DUI charge . . . the policeman was a duffus. The two boys are taking NIGHT classes to improve their grades and doing a great job. Breaking the law?? You mean the last episode where one of them had a friend under driving age riding with him in the van as they drove through mudholes in a nearby plot of ground?? I believe the parents came down on the boys . . . not the law.
Little People Big World is great. Has taught me a lot about lives of those not so fortunate to be born “normal.”
They already had twins from fertility treatments, so we know the chances of having more multiples is extremely high.
They were not trying for 1 more child, and they knew they were at risk for having multiples.
Sems like you’re assuming a lot about the motivation coming dirctly from the miscarriage. Have they said as much on the show?
He was not found guilty because he WAS NOT guilty. It all had to do with his driving over the line and he was driving his wife’s van while his was in the shop. They have different length of legs and seat was moved up as close as he could move it. The guilt was more about driving a vehicle that was not setup properly for him to drive. Compare to OJ??? Really . . . .
As a matter of fact, that is where I heard it. Why would I make something like that up.
Fertility treatments enabled them to bear children. The hair transplant procedure was free.
You all will pile on and pile on and pile on....
..and verbally destroy even this little family...
..just like your minions tried to do to Palin.
It's open season...I know it.
There is nothing I can do.
I will not contribute anything else to this thread.
Let’s follow the islamic families in phx who let their kids go out with ak 47’s and other guns and have a shooting party in a somewhat populated area. (see thread yesterday)
that would make for a very interesting show.
Losing an argument needn't be so traumatic.
I could be mistaken about this, but I think that the hair transplant was donated by a doctor who saw the show. No money out of pocket from them.
NO. You are thinking of the Duggars, another featured family which has 17 children. They are indeed very religious and conservative, and moreover Mr. Duggar actually pays their way, unlike the freeloading Jon and Kate.
Why should he pass up yet another TLC freebie. They are the perfect Obama family for America--freeloading opportunists. Like all the whining morons in Obama's 30-min video.
While I don’t agree with the reviewer, I don’t like the way Kate Gosselin interacts with Jon - when I see her on TV, I feel extra thankful for my wife’s grace and sense of humor.
I didn’t think you had made it up, bu that you may have misinterpreted.
I watched this show twice. I hate the way she speaks to him. On the other hand, I love seeing the Duggars.
I’m sure they are. But like so many young wives these days, perhaps she should read Prov. 31 and Titus 2.
As I pointed out, they chose such treaemtns rather than have a child who wasn't theirs biologically, and did so knowing multiples would be the result.
I didn't know the hair transplant was free, but I have to say it doesn't change my opinion much, especially if it's true that his wife told him to get it. If my wife told me tto get surgery because she didn't want me to have a bald patch, I would thank her for the amusing suggestion and move on with my day.
BTW, did you notic the post upthread about her slapping him on a regular basis? Is that the model of a Christian marriage that's going to get the world to accept the Gospel?
I’ve seen this show a few times and think Kate is a nagging shrew. She slaps her husband in the face for goodness’ sakes. The twins disturb me too. Mady has serious behavior and anger management issues. Cara isn’t on camera much which makes me wonder if she asked to be opted out. On the other hand, I can’t blame them for becoming something of a cottage industry. Their weekly grocery bill must be astronomical, not to mention the thought of financing eight college educations.
