Taxes should be the same rate for everyone, regardless of income. Punnishing those who educate themselves,and get better jobs, or work harder, making more money, should not be taxed more.
:::::::::::::
That is exactly what I meant — for example if EVERYONE pays 20%, that is a fair, flat tax rate. The AMOUNT OF TAX DOLLARS you would pay is proportional to the amount of money you make — you make $1, you pay 20 cents. You make $1 MILLION, you pay $200,000 in tax. That is what I meant.
I see what you mean, I thought you meant taxing on a scale proportional to income. eg; 20% for those earning 20-30k; 30% 31k-50k; etc.
Even so, a percentage tax isn’t really fair either, those who make more still pay more.
In day of old, everyone paid their 1/2 sheckle to the king, regardless of how much money they had.
That is actually the Lord’s advise on taxation.
Christ knew that a wealth created more charity and better economic times for all. Hard work, living the lords way was conducive to a greater share of the blessing, abundance, which trickled back down to the sick and needy.
Christ was no communist, and didn’t expect anyone to live humble. In fact just barely making enough to live was selfish.
I think there’s confusion between the flat tax and the fair tax. What you’re describing is a flat income tax. I believe the fair tax proposal would abolish the income tax and impose a national sales tax instead.
My fear is that unless we repeal the amendment that gives the feds the power to tax income first, we will end up with an income tax and a national sales tax.
FairTax is a tax on consumption.
Whether you spend (tax inclusive) $100 or $1,000 for an item, the tax RATE will be the same, irrespective of income.
ICO FairTax, it is 23% ($23.00 and $230.00, respectively).
Has NOTHING to do with income, aside FRom the fact that those who have more disposable income tend to spend more of it.
