Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader By Alexander Bolton Posted: 11/16/08 01:05 PM [ET]

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.

But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.

“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

Gov. Palin talks the talk and appears to walk the walk. She’ll have name recognition on her side, and four years to sharpen her command of policy/issues. She’ll have some trouble if Huckabee runs again—they’d likely split the Christian vote in the early primaries, which could leave the door open yet again to one of the Country Club boyz. It all depends on who else is running.

Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader

Are you jealous, Newt?? I'm not waiting for 2012 to get the GOP back into the game, I'm going to get the GOP to wake up for the 2009 elections (NJ and VA governor's races IIRC and local races), so we can rebuild the GOP from the ground up.

In 2012 -- Palin/Jindal.

To start with all your arguments are a little specious. You say she needs to govern. She has already governed and has doen quite well at it, as a business owner, mayor and Governor of the largest state of the Union. She has negotiated contracts with Canada and foreign oil companies and also has negotiated with Russia over fishing rights. So much for "foreign policy". Economics, she has already proved herself there with what she has done in Alaska.

As for the Global warming crap, she had to go along with McCain, he was the head of the ticket she had to tow the line a bit if she wanted to be VP. That goes for many other things she said and did during her short time at bat(about 12 weeks). She was set up for terrible interviews. If you would listen to her speeches when she isn't under the gun of McCain you will see where she stands and what she knows. She is very knowledgeable about all aspects of governing.

I will vote for Sarah Palin in the next Presidential election, if she runs. If she runs and is not nominated for the Republican ticket, I will work towards getting her to run as an Independent, and if she does that, good luck to the Republican Party winning the Presidency in 2012. Many of the base will vote for her regardless of what ticket she runs on.

I wasn’t referring to Sarah.

Let me rephrase, adding a key hint.

How ‘bout a really smart, super wealthy, good looking, cultist?

cultist?

This is the kind of hate filled nonsense that the country saw on full display during the primaries. And pretty much here at FR on any given day.

Do you even want to bother asking why I will never vote for your candidate?

Whether Sarah Palin becomes the leader or one of the 30 leaders will be up to Sarah. Given her experience, intelligence and will, I would say she could become one of the top 3 if she chooses to do so. Her biggest problem will be the Republican elitests and they know who they are but so do we.

What an extraordinarily misleading headline. Gingrich never said Palin would not be the future of the GOP, rather he said there are a number of rising stars and she is but one of them.

Technically you are correct.

However Newt is a clever man. He knew how it would be portrayed in the media. It's clearly a shot at Palin.

There are consequences. Now she can’t back out of those stances without looking foolish.

she raised taxes on oil companies.

And gave the money to the people of Alaska.

Alaska had been content with crumbs for a very long time, till Palin saw they were being screwed.

Some of us do not forget!
