The Roman Catholic Church has halted contributions to the community organizing group ACORN because of questionable voting incidents, a church official says.
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development cited, among other things, complaints over ACORN's registration drives in the Nov. 4 election, CNN reported.
"We simply had too many questions and concerns to permit further CCHD funding of ACORN groups," Roger Morin, the auxiliary bishop of New Orleans and campaign chairman, told the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops meeting in Baltimore, Md.

ACORNS connection to CHD has been reported by FR many times. I stopped tithing years ago. You can send money to organizations that actually help people (orphanages for example) and you can volunteer at the local parish level. I give money locally only to those collections that don’t fall under Parish Share. Parish Share is a pot of money for the Bishops to do anything (lobby for illegal aliens, Catholic school for non-Catholics, ACORN etc.)
Hmmm, I wonder how many other private groups donate to ACORN?
Of course, it’s not “the Catholic Church,” but the American bishops, who have been funding ACORN.
The real problem is the Campaign for Human Development. It is the HARD HARD LEFT within the liberal fascist bureaucracy the bishops created in Washington to support Woodrow Wilson’s war and military draft (in defiance of Pope Benedict XV) in 1917, the National Catholic War Conference—now known as the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
There have been previous scandals with CCHD’s exclusive support of hard left organizations, pro-abortion politicians, etc. CCHD exists, in large part, to nullify anything “pro-life” the bishops might be accomplishing.
Thanks for the advice.
Fortunately, CCHD is funded by a special collection, on one Sunday of the year, so you haven’t been contributing to it unawares. The collection is not taken up in my diocese.
The Dirctor of the Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) at the USCCB (a lay person) was once a Democrat activist in the Minnesota Democrat Farm Labor party and a Hubert Humphrey protege. He has long supported ACORN through his control of the CCHD and disbursement of its grants. These grants were over a $ 1 million this year and $7 million over the last 10 years.
He knew all about ACORN’s involvement in helping liberal Democrat causes and probably kept most of that from the naive bishops, who thought all the money was going to help the poor.
He was in violation of the law, disrespectful of Catholic Church procedures for non-involvement in political campaigns, and dishonest in the misappropriation of Catholics’ contributions intended for the poor but channeled into his personal political agenda.
