Doug, sorry pards, I’ve tried all of them and nothing beats the good’ol (simple) Colt Series 70 1911 .45 ACP

At the risk of sounding difficult myself, I must agree. There is something about the 1911 that just, I don't know, *melts* into the hand? Even without custom grips, it just feels like a well trained horse: Any mistakes it makes are because you aren't riding it right.

Here it is fighting off either a tree, an animal, someone from ACORN, or a violent gay protester.

The single column magazine, sensible trigger reach, excellent balance and instinctive ergonomics make it a pleasure to practice with. I grew up with Jeff Cooper, I got his book A Complete Guide to Modern Handgunning for Christmas when I was seven, and wore the cover off of it. The 1911 of course was featured. Call me old fashioned, but I can make holes that count with this pistol more easily than with any other. After thirty five years of shootin' it, these newfangled pistols, while great to shoot, just don't satisfy.
