I have eaten many MREs tho. Right after Hurricane Andrew, I was involved in a gun trade. We were around $100 off and the guy said “how about a dozen cases of MRE’s?”

He had apparently picked them up in South Florida, probably through some kind of hurricane relief. I loved to camp and thought they would be nice for camping which in fact they were. I later discovered they were worth more than the $100.

In 1969, after a traumatic break-up with my girlfriend, I asked to be drafted. I took my physical in Montgomery, Alabama at an Air Force base. To my surprise, I failed the hearing exam and they classified me 2S. Almost certainly due to firing too many pistols with no hearing protection. I was a college athlete at the time. I later passed a much more stringent physical for a Federal Law Enforcement Agency but without a hearing test other than the Dr. noting I could hear him OK.
