LOS ANGELES John McCain said Tuesday that Sarah Palin did not damage his presidential bid, and he dismissed as typical campaign sniping anonymous criticism aimed at her following their crushing defeat. "I'm so proud of her and I'm very grateful she agreed to run with me. She inspired people, she still does," McCain told Jay Leno during an "Tonight Show" interview taped for broadcast Tuesday night. "I couldn't be happier with Sarah Palin." Asked by Leno about griping about Palin from unidentified McCain operatives in the days following the election, the Arizona senator said, "These things happen in campaigns.

Team McCain diehard apologists everywhere just swallowed their own tongues, in unison. ;)
Pfftt. It took one week for the man to come out to defend her. Too little, too late!
Took him way too long to do, but just maybe we can give him credit for doing it before a huge viewing audience like Leno’s.
Just making a statement wouldn’t have been heard by as many.
He should have made it clear to his low class underlings that there was to be none of this crap. What a shame he didn’t do it. HE should be ashamed. He did WAY too little to stop it.
He should be saying she helped him immensely not did not damage. She carried him.
“Just making a statement wouldnt have been heard by as many.”
Particularly since the MSM is ignoring the aides who’ve defended her: Mark Salter, Rick Davis, Steve Schmidt, Charlie Black, Steve Biegun - even Nicolle Wallace.
I really want to know who the “sources” are, because that sounds like the top level of the McCain camp to me.
Wow, that was about the most lukewarm “defense” of anyone I’ve ever heard.
“He should have made it clear to his low class underlings that there was to be none of this crap.”
Of course, this makes him look weak, aloof, uncaring, etc. add your own negative adjective.
If he can’t even control his own underlings.....
Agreed, absolutely, on both counts.
I still plan on pointing and laughing at all the McCain diehards who've spent the last week soiling themselves all over this site, idiotically proclaiming -- contra all available evidence and common sense -- that "Sarah Palin is the primary reason John McCain lost in 2008." (I finished soundly spanking one of these dimwits just the other day, in fact.) ;)
Oh, and O'reilly and his Newsweek editor pal also blamed Palin for McCain's loss tonight.
Typical McCain...respond too late to do any good with something that is either obvious or dodgy. Glad this guy won’t be our president, even if I don’t like the other guy.
Palin ‘12? I’m open to the idea.
Sen. McCain is a wimp. I know, I know, the man went through absolute hell as a POW, but he is now a complete wimp.

Too Late Senator. Nice try, but too late. About a week too late.
The story that she didn’t know that Africa is a continent has already become an urban myth. It’s the kind of lie that liberals love.
Not in all campaigns.
Nah, I believe that Juan still just hates conservatives.
bout time chump! /Bender
