Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker's endorsement, FOX News learned Tuesday.
Steele declined to comment, but a source close to the situation said Steele would announce his candidacy as early as Thursday.
The source also contradicted a report in Tuesday's Washington Times that Steele and Gingrich were competing for the RNC post.
"There is no fight," the source said. "This tension between Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich is totally fabricated and, in fact, Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP."

Thank you both for your input. Living in GA I have had limited exposure to Steele. I do like what I have seen so far, but I do not know enough about him to make an informed decision.
It is to our advantage to learn as much as we can even if we do not change our position.

See post 106, Steele is no conservative.

I don’t think I’ve been on one thread that didn’t have his/her link on it. I prefer yours.

He thinks the 2nd Amendment is about hunting.

But he’s so clean and articulate... he’s a storybook, man!
But seriously, no entity has done more to destroy conservatism than the republican party. Michael Steele will be the final stake in the heart of Reaganism. I’m sick to my stomach, yet again.

I don't care whether it is Steele or Newt, both fine men, respectable, intelligent.
The only requirement I have for anyone in the RNC or Republican Party, is that they never, ever, EVER!, say anything at all about “reaching across the aisle”, or “hands across the table”, or “truly bipartisan in nature”, or any other such idiotic meaningless crap.
Stand for your principles. Fight for your principles. And above all realize that compromising your principles in an effort to appease the Godless, valueless, liberal Democrats is NOT victory, and it is NOT an acceptable outcome.

Steele is part of the future of the party. Gingrich has his place in history, but we dont need him to go forward... Yes, we do!

WAKE UP, PEOPLE! We don't need Newt. He is part of why we are where we are... He's why we were where we were...or do you think that the first congressional majority in 40 years was a bad thing?
