VERNON, Ala. Fear of the politician with the unusual name and look did not end with last Tuesdays vote in this rural red swatch where buck heads and rifles hang on the wall. This corner of the Deep South still resonates with negative feelings about the race of President-elect Barack Obama.

Probably the most offensive article to come from the pages of the NY Times.

I sure that the remaining lines of the article are no better than the first. I’ll avoid giving them a hit.

Why else would anyone vote for McCain? Racism, xenophobia, irrelevance. Whole states leaving the mainstream. What a tragedy for their backward, knuckle-dragging denizens.

David Bositis, senior political analyst at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, pointed out that the 18 percent share of whites that voted for Senator John Kerry in 2004 was almost cut in half for Mr. Obama. "Theres no other explanation than race," he said.
So, there you have it. There's just no other explanation.

That's right - the only perceptible difference between JFnK and Barry Zero O'bama was their race, otherwise they were indistinguishable.
What a smarmy vacuous twit.

I read the entire article, and there was not one shred of evidence to support the Times claim that the South voted against Obama because of race.
Heaven forbid that this dying dinosaur of the media ever admit that people voted against Obama because of his stance on the issues.
At least we can all take comfort in knowing that the Times is dying.

Damn Yankees...typical BS.

As the surreptiously recorded statement of Obama in San Francisco several months ago proved, racism in the South can’t hold a candle to that displayed openly in the cocktail parties of the “elite” in New York City and elsewhere.

Of course it was about race. Why else would anyone vote for zero? His election will hurt black politicians for decades to come because they elected this empty suit.

Those states have experienced an influx of better educated and more prosperous voters in recent years, pointing them in a different political direction than states farther west, like Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, and Appalachian sections of Kentucky and Tennessee. Translation: Fewer taxpayers in proportion to tax-consumers and guilty white yuppies.

The Times and other liberal bastions just does not understand that racial hatred was far more common in the North than the South. After the Emancipation of the slaves and the exodus of blacks to Northern cities, racial hatred was stirred up and fanned to a frenzy by labor unions and political machines worried that the freed slaves would take jobs away from the workers already there.
