Yeah but hta'ts what MAKES radio...or rather how the host deals with it. It's why "regular" radio is the best of all media.

Think Of all the media, print, TV, the net etcetera. They all require you to use at least two of your senses. With radio you only need to listen. It asks for nothing buter that your ears. That is Radio's big advantage. You can use it and still read a book, drive a car, garden, sew or knit, cook or whatever. And it's portable. It can always be with you no matter where you are or what you do.

Now as to myself I'm "old school" and prefer...oh I hate this saying..."Live and Local"...but that's basically that's another strength. Sure I saw the world on my radio when I grew up in the 50's and 60's. Listened to faraway stations, got a kick out of international broadcasting, and enjoyed the connectivity to other parts of the world.

But there's another aspect, and that's the community connectivity. Radio - if it were done as it should be - cements the local community better than any other form of media.

Ahhh...the time....sorry like I said I'm at work and just passed out the "stacks of Stuff" of news and show prep..and have to get busy writing a few local news items for the morning shows. If things slow down I'll be back. And I will be listening tomorrow. Like we're doing with the Quinn and Rose morning show live thread here (WPGB-FM, Pittsburgh) maybe we could have a Young Guns thread when it's on.

BTW I DO NOT work at that station. My stations are a woman oriented AC, A nostalgia music station, and one that just changed format from newstalk to money talk. BLEAH!

My two cents:

Good, clear voice.

Lotta run on sentences. Slow down a little. Consider puntuating sentences with a heartbeat of silence.

An hour is a long time to talk. Throw in a few breaks, if possible. Pre-recorded narrative, music, something.

Consider giving each program and/segment a theme and remind listeners of that theme after breaks. “Today we’re talking about ACORN and voter fraud.”

Good first show.

Remember to open the chat room when you start the show!! That’s where all the fun is! You might want to consider finding a co-host or at least a helper to tend the chat as trolls will have to be smacked and links will have to be posted.

As far as I’m concerned you did a good job.

Seriously, at your first time, I’m proud of you.

Suggestions:

#1, Intoxicants, not on your show. tell him to e mail you with it. send an obvious drunk guy to emaildom.

I say this only because I was that guy (2nd or so caller about the Geneva Convention). (I was nice though...)

rule #2. If you do decide to do this thing, and I hope you do, You need staff, and staff cost money, etc...
(at first you’ll be like, on yer own, and, what not) By yourself you survived this night, You were not challanged by a drunk libtard, If you happen to have no staff you gota be the guy that pulls the plug. Do it. The one thing worse than hearing a pissed off coserv rant is hearing the drunken other side. #2.5 no one wants to hear that!

Rule#3”: get in touch with those persons that are succesful in your chosen profession. Nuff said.

Rule#4: Practice makes perfect, if you get the same chance, let us know, next time I’d expect, and be proud if you do better.

GL Gator.

#4 staff is an aid, not a crutch- if you ever have a staff, accept the challenge.

My best wishes. ChetNavVet.
