Problem is Steele never won an election by himself (Lt Gov is ticket with Gov), he lost the Senate.

Newt won elections by himself and led 1994..

That said, we need both of them..

My vote goes to Steele.

It’s about time that the RNC has started to represent ALL the people and BOTH genders.

Speaker Gingrich has the ideas but his flirtations with Hillary and Dirty Nan should bother rock ribbed conservatives.

I'm a rock-ribbed conservative, and I think Newt would be an excellent choice. I understand what you're saying, though. I don't know anything about Steele, but Newt's strength is is ability to strategize. I don't think he'd be a good candidate, but he's excellent at figuring out what to do.

I always find myself in a quandary when talking about the ideological tests. Reagan couldn't have passed a lot of the tests we put on candidates today, but it seems like we swing from screaming "IMPURE! IMPURE!" to a candidate like McCain who only crosses conservatism occasionally, and then by accident.

Yeah, I don’t know. I’ve posted twice in support of Newt, but upon further consideration I’m not so sure.

Look, the Dems control everything now how much easier would it be for them to use Newt as the spawn of satan like they did under Clinton?

Under any other circumstances Newt would be perfect for this position, but I’m not so sure anymore. Like I want to help Democrats more? Like I want to hand them a built in foil? Get it?

Yep, Newt had his day in the sun, now he thinks it’s too hot. He should stay home where it’s cool and let Steele have a chance.

What I know about Steele, I like. But the job should go to Newt.

It is imperative, absolutely vital, that the Republicans retake the House of Representatives in 2010. It can be done, and Newt, who won the majority in 1994, knows how to do it.

How about co-chairs? Have one focus on regaining congress (Newt) and the other on the Presidency and state houses (Steele).

OR

How about co-chairs. One to kick the RINO's out, the other to make sure they STAY out?

I've been watching Steele closely on the various panel shows for a couple weeks. He's got the personality and grasp of issues down pat, and never fails in his conservative view point.

However, I noticed sometimes a lack of insightful, quick responses in debate-type, enemy-confrontations. I think Newt has a much deeper experience, poise and grasp of political basics.

I love Steele. He's not going away. The RNC is not a panel show. We need a no-nonsense, fundamental conservative now, with the zillions of contacts Newt has across the country......Steele could use a little more seasoning......and be ready to step into the Newtster's shoes when called.

Haven’t seen enough of Steele to make a good judgement, but what I have seen I like very much. Newt is a known quantity and a born in-fighter. I would lean towards Newt because I think Steele can better serve conservatism as an elected official, but I would be happy with either.

Sorry I didn’t see your post — I did a quick hit-and-run when I saw the topic. But I think Ann would do such a KICK-ASS job. She’d take no prisoners and we’d have no wishy-washy milquetoast people in charge who’d be afraid of hurting somebody’s witto feewings.

Atwater knew how to win, something this party has forgotten.

Big tent, small tent, outhouse. I want someone who knows how to fight.

I wish that I could trust newt... but I can't. When I heard him say with my own ears, “The era of Reaganism is dead” I knew his Conservatism had died too. Rush actually challenged him and newt made some lame 180 degree spin that he really did not mean what he said. Then there was his algore moment and that cruise with the beast in Alaska. I just don't think he is worthy... but I am not certain of that. I just do not trust him.
