Recommended Gun List for Freepers (Vanity)
11/09/2008 | SoftwareEngineer

I would like to request that fellow Freepers help us non knowledgeable gun owners in recommending guns that we can buy before gun laws get changed. Many of us have only a basic semi automatic hand gun and have never given much thought to anything else.

However, before gun laws change I would like to complete my gun collection and even buy guns that I can leave to my children.

Maybe we can organize the recommendations as follows:

The question will be you vs. Barry Soetero’s Civilian Defense Corps who will militarily train all of the youth with basic military training to enforce the new set of social norms such as the 1st and 2nd Amendments, which will be revoked.

This guy has power, so much power the the Justice Dept. whinnied like a sick horse when presented with ACORN voting, illegal foreign contributions and fraudlent credit card donation policies...hell, he apparently killed the gay choir director of Rev. Wright’s church and silenced a Republican governor about a birth certificate.

He quashed the LA Times to not release a videotape of he and Ayers praising Rahsidi.

He nearly jailed Jerome Corsi for attempting to dig into his birth certificate and connection to Odinga.

He used public officials to raze Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin, including an on-the-spot investigation called “faux-Trooergate”

This guy has power, real power and he wants to push the US into a Marxist utopia of Liberalism and Muslim appeasement.

It will be you vs. a newly trained ObamaArmy private, in the end.

Keep practicing. Stock up on ammo. Keep money and food nearby. Pray to Jesus.

The AK-47 rifle does not have great long-range accuracy, so I don't see what value a scope has for such a rifle. I am not knocking the AK-47, I am just saying that gadgets will not make it more accurate.

However a holographic sight would make it more "shootable" in an urban battle scenario. Take a look at pictures of our troops in the cities, towns and villages of Iraq and Afghanistan. You'll most have some kind of holographic optic. There's a good reason for that. It will apply to an AK just as much as an AR. They aren't in general cheap, but there are less expensive versions which would likely be fine for an AK.

You’re talking about EOTech optics. They run from $400-$600 bones. I have a Bushnell Red Dot/Green Dot on my AR, $242 including tax.

S&W 9SV (Sigma); they are on sale now for around $299 with a $50 dollar rebate or two mags. Ergonomically, the most comfortable auto pistol on the market. Function (I have a .40),
the only FTF or FTE I’ve had was with using Monarch ammo...I don’t use that anymore. Excellent bang (no pun intended) for the buck. It is a “striker “fired (essentially a double action auto)pistol; if you’d rather a DA/SA pistol, check out the FNH or CZ75...excellent choices. Buy more ammo.

As disgusting as it sounds, that would include family and friends.

Immediate or extended?

I wouldn't want to leave my wife and kids behind (well kids are on their own now, and wife lives almost 4 hours away, but we commute, kids are actually closer, only about an hour, in the opposite direction of course. But all are in Texas, and all of them can shoot, even though they don't have any guns handy at the moment. Well one daughter does, as her hubby is also a Texan, the other has one from New Jersey, who nonetheless is working on learning to shoot, but he's terribly recoil shy, so I have him working with my heavy barrel Ruger 22/45 for now. Made the mistake of letting him try the 1911, and I think he put a round into the ceiling of the range. :( ) Wife needs a nice pistol caliber carbine for home defense, maybe with a light handgun (9x18 maybe or .380) to back it up.

Keep it dry and below 80-85F, a long time, WW2 ‘06 ammo still goes bang and will reach out and touch...anything you aim at.

Immediate; my parents and sister whom I live with, grandfather and uncle in Manhattan, and my cousin and his family who are a stone’s throw away (a pro baseball player could hit where they live with a ball).

Then there’s 3 friends who I’ve known for half my life...

Cabela's, at least the Buda TX, location, has the Steyr MA-1 in 9mm and 40 S&S on sale for $369.99 right now. I think you can do better though.

I just checked and all the Bushmaster carbines on Gallery of Guns show as "out of stock", and that's a lot of dealers to not have any. Although that may mean they don't have any to sell through that website, but do have some in their stores. Have to check the one in town I've been meaning to check anyway. (But it burnt down some time ago, and has only recently reopened for gun sales)

You’re talking about EOTech optics.

Not just those, but also Trijicon ACOG, and others, including one that looks like an EOTech but somewhat larger. Actually last I checked you could get the EOTech for about 325-350, unless you insist on night vision compatibility, but that's still mighty high for something for an AK, although not for an AR.

Somebody in a free land attempts to put me in a ‘refugee camp’, they’ll have to put me in jail because I’ll fight with them too. No cowering and waiting out the storm for me.

I don't think he was talking about a "camp" with guard towers and such, unless they were facing out for protection rather than in. The refugee camp is for your family. They'll need somewhere to live while you're off doing your "patriotic chore". At least until better digs can be found or built.

Don't confuse a refugee camp with a reeducation or work camp.

True, true. Yeah, I looked at the high end EOTech. Not really necessary for the basics. Aimpoint makes a decent optic as well. They look the best on M1A/SOCOM rifles.

When you're an adult, your parents, and siblings are no longer "immediate" family, love them though you do. That's your wife and kids, if any. Most of our ancestors left their families to settle here. Mine did, from southern Germany. Although they already had a couple of kids, they did leave the rest of their relatives behind. That was in the mid 1860s. Others came both earlier and later, but those are the ones I know the most about.

I would hate to betray the promise that they came here to fulfill.
