I would like to request that fellow Freepers help us non knowledgeable gun owners in recommending guns that we can buy before gun laws get changed. Many of us have only a basic semi automatic hand gun and have never given much thought to anything else.
However, before gun laws change I would like to complete my gun collection and even buy guns that I can leave to my children.
Maybe we can organize the recommendations as follows:
Czech made CZs and Slovak make ZC are both easy to find in the US, the former more so than than the latter. Plus, Italian made copies, or in one case derivative which CZ later copied, are available from EAA (European American Armory). All can be found at any medium to large gun show.
Walmart doesn’t sell ammo in California.
Aim has .38 for $11.95 and .45 for $15.95
With our sales tax at 7.75%, it should come close to covering shipping.
Move, now, before it's too late. Things are not going to better anywhere, but sure as heck not in the deep blue states.
I am partial to the Beretta 9000s. It is accurate (most important factor). It is also light and fits in the hand naturally. I got one for $350.
I agree; a good hidey-hole is a must.
And I was armed on 9-11. In fact, I found a used Remington 870 for about $100; it turned out the barrel was bent, but trimming it to 18" solved that, plus adding a mag extension so that it carries 6 rounds of buckshot makes me feel secure.
As I explained to my friend the city cop: It aint a game gun, unless terrorists are protected.
I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
LOL especially those that are 10-7 at Dunkin Donuts a lot.
No thanks
Good subject... BTTT for more comments
AR-15
I recommend the Colt LE 6920. High quality materials and manufacturing. Great resale value. The gold-standard in AR-15s. I just bought one here:

Well that's not what his Change.gov site said, before it's agenda section was takend down yesterday.
It said:
* Address Gun Violence in Cities:
As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Repeal the Tihart amendment, means give anti-gun politicians access to gun trace data, for use against legitimate gun dealers, even those well outside their jurisdiction.
The Assault Weapons ban will be new and improved, and will not have the "Two characteristics" test which allowed for minor cosmetic changes to various AR and AK type rifles/carbines. In fact there is a bill, HR 1022 in Congress now, which will only have to be refiled on January 5th. It defines assault weapon as:
The term `semiautomatic assault weapon' means any of the following:
`(A) The following rifles or copies or duplicates thereof:
`(i) AK, AKM, AKS, AK-47, AK-74, ARM, MAK90, Misr, NHM 90, NHM 91, SA 85, SA 93, VEPR;
`(ii) AR-10;
`(iii) AR-15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, or Olympic Arms PCR;
`(iv) AR70;
`(v) Calico Liberty;
`(vi) Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle or Dragunov SVU;
`(vii) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, or FNC;
`(viii) Hi-Point Carbine;
`(ix) HK-91, HK-93, HK-94, or HK-PSG-1;
`(x) Kel-Tec Sub Rifle;
`(xi) M1 Carbine;
`(xii) Saiga;
`(xiii) SAR-8, SAR-4800;
`(xiv) SKS with detachable magazine;
`(xv) SLG 95;
`(xvi) SLR 95 or 96;
`(xvii) Steyr AUG;
`(xviii) Sturm, Ruger Mini-14;
`(xix) Tavor;
`(xx) Thompson 1927, Thompson M1, or Thompson 1927 Commando; or
`(xxi) Uzi, Galil and Uzi Sporter, Galil Sporter, or Galil Sniper Rifle (Galatz).
`(B) The following pistols or copies or duplicates thereof:
`(i) Calico M-110;
`(ii) MAC-10, MAC-11, or MPA3;
`(iii) Olympic Arms OA;
`(iv) TEC-9, TEC-DC9, TEC-22 Scorpion, or AB-10; or
`(v) Uzi.
`(C) The following shotguns or copies or duplicates thereof:
`(i) Armscor 30 BG;
`(ii) SPAS 12 or LAW 12;
`(iii) Striker 12; or
`(iv) Streetsweeper.
`(D) A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine, and that has--
`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
`(ii) a threaded barrel;
`(iii) a pistol grip;
`(iv) a forward grip; or
`(v) a barrel shroud.
`(F) A semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine, and has--
`(i) a second pistol grip;
`(ii) a threaded barrel;
`(iii) a barrel shroud; or
`(iv) the capacity to accept a detachable magazine at a location outside of the pistol grip.
`(G) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
`(H) A semiautomatic shotgun that has--
`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;v `(ii) a pistol grip;
`(iii) the ability to accept a detachable magazine; or
`(iv) a fixed magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds.
`(I) A shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
`(J) A frame or receiver that is identical to, or based substantially on the frame or receiver of, a firearm described in any of subparagraphs (A) through (I) or (L).
`(K) A conversion kit.
`(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'.
The definitions of "pistol grip" and "Barrel shroud" are such that essentially all semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns would be banned.
But as you can see their main emphasis is on rifles. The Full capacity magazine ban in there too.
Fifty caliber sniper rifles are covered by another law that will also need to be refiled, S. 1331
In a survival scenario, it will be practical to own an AR-15 type rifle in .223/5.56. If anything breaks on your AR-15, you will be able to find spare parts for it. I know that AR-15 rifles with 16 inch barrels are very popular. I prefer the AR-15 with a 20 inch barrel - the longer barrel makes a somewhat better long-range use of the small bullet than a shorter barrel.
Likewise, parts are widely available for 1911-style pistols. A basic 1911 is a good choice. Of course, many "foreign" handguns are made in the U.S., such as Beretta, SIG, Glock, etc. I like the SIG pistols - I own several and they are accurate and super-reliable. If you are interested in a 1911 style pistol for home defense, you do not need a tricked-out, expensive 1911 with a match trigger.
I like to try and keep things simple. Sometimes people are too caught up with gadgets. For example, you can get an AK-47 semi-auto style rifle and put a scope on it. The AK-47 rifle does not have great long-range accuracy, so I don't see what value a scope has for such a rifle. I am not knocking the AK-47, I am just saying that gadgets will not make it more accurate.
You don't have much more than that, so get cracking. The bills will be filed Jan. 5 or within a day or three of then, and will be ready for The Signature of The One, come January 21st.
***Move, now, before it’s too late.***
I’ve had thoughts of leaving everything but my clothes, music, guitar, bike and telescope behind.
As disgusting as it sounds, that would include family and friends. I’m quite sure none of my family would leave, and maybe one or two friends would follow me.
Mine are just backwards from that. My "Serious Social Purposes" Maverick has the cross bolt safety, my "hunting" Browning BPS, the thumb safety. However even though I've had it for a couple of decades now, I really haven't used the BPS that much, and the JC Higgins I had before that, which I used a lot, had the cross bolt, so I'm quite comfortable with that anyway.
Refugee camps? I wanna fight
Somebody in a free land attempts to put me in a ‘refugee camp’, they’ll have to put me in jail because I’ll fight with them too. No cowering and waiting out the storm for me.
Where can one find the 'furrin made'? I might as well get the best "bang" for my buck. :)
You might want to look at the EAA Witness compact with muzzle compensator. It's light, and the comp reduces the felt recoil to less than 1911 levels in a much lighter gun. Downside is the muzzle flash at night will blind you, as well as your target. For night encounters I keep the 1911 nearby. It's also made in 9mm and .40 S&W. Not sure you can still get the version with the built in compensator.
No, the fighters will fight along side us of course. I’m just talking about the basic logistics though. Where your family goes, that kind of thing.
Still, I think the military would just coup out a fraudulent regime and we’ll all be just fine. They are not going to take the side of a Marxist regime as those of us who served can attest to. They never have and never will. They’ll set proper elections back up, anyone caught engaging in vote fraud will be summarily executed, and only legitimate American citizens can run.
Sound fair enough, eh?
