Q -- Why did your campaign lose? A -- I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a $10 trillion debt in a Republican administration, how have there been blunders with war strategy under a Republican administration.

It was a lose/lose proposition from the start. If McCain had made a big push FOR the bailout, he would have been flayed by conservatives. If McCain had spit fire AGAINST the bailout he would have been flayed for "failing to save the economy". Obama and the rats KNEW there could be no winner and this is why Pelosi INSISTED on a no-doubt-about-it "bi-partisan" bill.
I will never understand how McCain fell into that trap.... No way could he win.
Obama is the candidate who played it smart. But then, I think he had the playbook.
Bush DOES suck, hard. He’s the worst president I have ever voted for and the reason I and countless millions have left the GOP.
I’d take from this that she wasn’t pleased with the $700B bailout—or McCain’s grandstanding support for it. That’s what lost the election for them, and she knows it.
I support President Bush and I think he is a good man. That said, he has made decisions in his presidency that I do not agree with.
But overall I think republicans/conservatives have done a poor job getting the truth out to the masses. We have to do better in the future

Same here, but we didn’t vote FOR McWhatshisname...we voted FOR Sarah!
I think she’s just stating the facts:
Bush at 71% disapproval(46% in 2004)
Wrong track at 75%(46%)
Economy not so good/poor at 93%(52%)
Family’s finances worse at 42%(28%)
Iraq War disapproval at 63%(45%)
Add on unemployment and inflation at their highest levels in 15 years, the debt and deficits higher than ever, the market losing 35% between Labor Day and Election Day, being outspent by $300,000,000 including 5-1 in key states
Not good for the incumbent pary, to put it mildly
To compare, in 2000 Al Gore ran with Clinton at 57-41 approval, right track/wrong track at 65-31, family’s finances better at 50%(only 11% said worse) and no unpopular war, and even playing field spending-wise...and he still lost
A 3rd term is very difficlut under good circumstances, under awful circumstances like this year, it’s virtually impossible. In the end, it was just too much to overcome in what was always a change election.
As for W, I can’t see him playing much of a role in the future. Certainly not like Clinton has with the dems. Do you see Bush stumping for us in OH or FL or wherever in 2012 or 2016? At this point, his endorsement in a future race is probably a net negative. Although I would not rule out him taking some time off and backing Jeb in 12 or 16.
Palin just told the truth. She and McCain were dealt a very bad hand. 2s and 3s of different suits while Obama had a a full house to start with. We pretty much needed a royal flush to win. Obama just needed ot stay where he was. Palin was very close to that flush until the economy collapsed in September. If this was a football game, the dems would have been a 20 pt favorite playing at home.
CONSERVATIVE VOTING BASE:
EXACT DIAMETRIC OPPOSITE OF CONSERVATIVE VOTING BASE:
One can win in 2012. The other is a proven loser.
Choose accordingly.
> During the last 8 years, so-called republicans controlled all 3 branches for 2005 and 2006. TWO YEARS...that is all.
I thought it was from 2002 until 2006. And controlled the house from 2000 until 2006.
>>He failed to make tax cuts permanent.
>And that is the fault of the President?
The short answer is yes. Bush gets the credit for the tax cut and he gets the blaim for failing to make them permanent.
He isnt the President yet, in fact he isnt officially the President-elect yet, not until the electoral college votes him in with 270 or more votes. But there is a problem, the SCOTUS told him to produce a valid COLB by Dec. 1, if he cant the electors cant legally vote for him! Dont count your chickens before they hatch as they say!
called olberman to the carpet on the mission accomplished statement any military man knows bush was saluting the mission the ship had accomplished not the whole war.
but yet olberman is allowed to keep spewing over it.
bush was a coward to the media and spending confortations. sad but true. but good on security.
go get them sarah we need a FIGHTER>
I wanted them to read my opinion. I am still upset over the election and the turnover of total power to democrats. It gets worse as Obama talks about what he will do. The post was a bit emotional I know, it was late and some pro-Bush posts (and one worship Bush post) had me annoyed. Let me make my points calmly, what really bothers me and see how you resolved these in your mind. Maybe I missed something. (It’s not just you, so many faithful here)
On Iraq you think is was a great idea for GWB to tell everyone we were winning war 04-66 until after the 2006 elections, then announce he just discovered we were losing, something most people knew, except a few dwindling followers like us? You think this made it harder for the media to demonize republicans or easier.
So you think the Bush financial bailout and ‘beating’ house republicans into ‘submission’ to join democrats in the vote was a good idea? You think it helped McCain when democrats called it the republican bailout for the rich? Did you know that the house republicans that held firm against the second bailout vote , were mostly re-elected, those that went along lost?
And Obama people going door to door telling first time voters this is their last chance to vote against Bush? Did you see any republicans going door to door telling people this is their last chance to vote for Bush?
NO, none at all. Reagan ACTUALLY GAVE amnesty to nearly 4 million illegal aliens, opening the flood gates to what we have now. President Bush asked for a guest worker program so we could keep track of those that are here and he got nothing.
I never blamed Bush, but the fact remains all Obama and the media had to do was call McCain the second coming of Bush and it guaranteed a lot of lost votes. People got upset because McCain distanced himself from a President with a 29% approval rating. Honestly he didn’t do enough to show how he’d be different.
Bush abandoned us, and the fact that people choose to ignore that is ridiculous.
Quite frankly, it wouldn't have mattered WHO the Republican candidate was...Romney would have gone down just as hard as Bush built the flimsy platform on which they all stood!
I also am very pro-life,second ammendment, etc. Thats one reason I dont like McCain. He is too moderate and changes his values to “work across the isle” Who knows wich values were next on the chopping block.
Now, about that Republican-majority Congress we had for most of President Bush’s term....
Nah. We musn’t blame Republicans when they are ineffectual in leadership.
Actually, they didn’t. He just has to respond to the request for Cert. So he has to file responsive pleadings by Dec 1. Doesn’t have to include his BC. At least that’s the one order I saw. If you’ve got a link to another (the actual order) I’d love to see it.
This issue is a dead end anyway.
****Perhaps, everything played a part. I am a huge Bush fan, but I blame the Bush factor being allowed to the fore not on GWB but on McCain.
Bush, did the best he could, with what he had. What he did was very good, what he didn’t was very bad.
Alas, history will latch onto the very good! That will take a few years though...lol****
I don’t suppose it matters much but it would somehow be nice if Bush people would simply admit the truth about George Bush. He simply was not qualified to be POTUS. He failed to veto many many bills that needed quashing. He failed to lead the nation in any direction. He turned Iraq into a quagmire we are only now slogging our way out of .... years late. He captained the GOP into a spendthrift organization of lobbyist hounds. He utterly failed to see the financial meltdown coming and do anything about it. He was at the helm when this country was taken over by a communist community organizer. George Bush is the single biggest failure I can possibly think of. A loser of immeasurable proportions. George Bush and HIS party gave us Obama on a silver platter.
Not only will history NOT be kind to GWB. There may not be any historians or history left.
