Building a wall around that area of Afghanistan and Pakistan and allowing mother nature run its course is one option and certainly, the topgraphy is probably one of the most natural barriers to invasion that exists in the world. Of course, its location is what is mainly important and not to mention that over the closest Chinese border are a bunch of Moslems that the Chinese would become real touchy about and go extreme Tibetan on if they got any wild ideas to join up with this group. And if the Chinese go wild, India who is just advanced and now has money will do so as well. Alot more is at play here in this area than just religions too, you have a multitude of ethinic groups that converge at this area which makes it a serious hot spot. And nuclear capacity is there too. But these problems existed before even the British in that area but the British didn’t help. Clearly India has to be involved (with the Chinese being okay with that) to clear up this area (the Indians wouldn’t be too happy with the reverse) and some type of international conference is needed on this area. Not to mention, I think we are entitled to Osama Bin Laden and still don’t get why we haven’t found him with today’s technology where we can find people via satellite.

Or, you are right, we will fail like the Russians did and we may as well quarantine the area off and build a wall isolating the area and let mother nature take its course. I just thought it was silly for us to announce what our intentions were with civilians in that area since it tipped our hand which is why I posted in that area to begin with. But that’s just me
