Correct. It’s also not a “poison”. It just displaced the air in the enclosed space and basically smothered the poor devils.

The idea is to smother the fire and not make things worse by spraying water on thousands of electrical devices and shorting them out. Want to make an electrical fire worse? Spay it all down with water from a fire suppression system.

In areas where this type of fire suppression is used, alarms go off and it gives you time to evacuate or to don air gear. If the water tights are closed and this is in the reactor area, the crew members may have had no warning and no where to evac.
