ObamaCare Aided by Big Doses of Media Spin

The end of Congress’s long debate over ObamaCare could be near, as the President pushes for a final vote this week before his Asia trip, and House Democrats want a resolution before next week’s Easter break.

Yet whether or not liberals’ dreams are ultimately realized, they have had a huge advantage throughout the process. Over the past twelve months, journalists have continually stacked the deck in favor of a big government takeover of health care. A review of the worst spin:

■ On March 1, 2009, previewing Obama’s first White House meeting on health care, ABC’s Dr. Tim Johnson championed the liberal side. “We spend more than twice as much, per person, on health care in this country as the average of all other industrialized countries, yet we’re the only one that doesn’t have universal coverage. That’s a national shame,” Johnson announced on World News.

■ Obama’s March 5, 2009 health care conference drew rave reviews. On Nightly News, NBC’s Chuck Todd saluted how Obama had abandoned the “secrecy” of Hillary Clinton’s mid-1990s effort, and he enthused over the “Knute Rockne-like boost” an ailing Senator Ted Kennedy provided. On ABC’s World News, Tim Johnson gushed: “I was blown away by President Obama’s grasp of the subject, how he connected the dots, how he answered the questions without any script.”

■ As Obama kicked off his push for legislation, ABC News on June 24 hosted a two-hour prime time “town hall meeting,” with ABC’s anchors using the White House as home base for Good Morning America, World News and Nightline. On World News, reporter David Wright claimed “Democrats and Republicans alike” hoped Obama would succeed in fixing health care “because something needs to be done....The need is obvious.”


■ At the outset, the networks permitted little conservative dissent. The MRC’s Business & Media Institute calculated that, during the first six months of 2009, 70% of soundbites supported Obama’s liberal health care ideas, and gave short shrift to complaints about the hefty price tag.

■ As opposition to ObamaCare began to take hold, journalists led a counterattack. On the July 22 Good Morning America, ABC’s Chris Cuomo indignantly asked California Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger: “Do you believe that the Republicans are playing politics here, at the risk of people’s health care?...Is this getting to be a little bit of a reckless situation?” On NBC’s Today, Matt Lauer accused Senator Jim DeMint: “Are you rallying conservatives to the cause of health care reform? Or are you rallying conservatives to the cause of breaking a President?”

■ As citizens voiced opposition in town hall meetings over the summer, journalists disparaged the dissenters. Writing on AOL’s “Politics Daily” site, ex-CNN reporter Bob Franken blasted anti-ObamaCare protesters as “a crazed group” engaged in “organized intimidation.” Hardball host Chris Matthews blamed it all on racism: “I think some of the people are upset because we have a black president.” And Good Morning America’s Bill Weir warned “the rising anger is now ramping up concerns over the President’s personal safety.”

■ MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann was the most extreme, equating ObamaCare foes to suicide bombers: “When Hamas does it or Hezbollah does it, it is called terrorism. Why should Republican lawmakers and the AstroTurf groups organizing on behalf of the health care industry be viewed any differently — especially now that far too many Tea Party protesters are comparing President Obama and health care reform to Hitler and the Holocaust?”

■ Even as anti-Obama protesters were being vilified, the lobbying favor of ObamaCare continued. On August 6, Time senior political analyst Mark Halperin, previously political director at ABC News, declared on CNN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight: “We’re the only industrialized democracy that doesn’t cover every citizen. That is immoral.”

■ The broadcast networks seized on long lines at a free clinic in Los Angeles as evidence of, as CBS’s Katie Couric led her August 13 Evening News, “why many believe reform is desperately needed.” Two days later, ABC’s Dan Harris hit the same story on World News: “Tonight, a vivid demonstration of the health care crisis: A clinic that provides free health care has been inundated with patients. Almost 46 million people in this country do not have health insurance, but the problem is a lot bigger than that....”

■ After Ted Kennedy passed away in August, journalists tried to use his death to boost ObamaCare. “Even though he’s gone, his energy may help push this Obama plan through,” CBS News presidential historian Douglas Brinkley hoped during live overnight coverage just hours after Kennedy’s death was announced. “There is already an e-mail circulating that I’ve received today that reads simply, ‘In lieu of flowers, pass health care reform,’” NBC’s Brian Williams promoted early the next morning on Today.

■ Obama’s September 9 health care speech to Congress also drew raves: “This might have been the most emotional speech I’ve seen President Obama give....This is very close to President Obama’s heart,” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos enthused moments after the speech ended. On Nightline, ABC’s Terry Moran saluted how Obama “sought to draw on the grand rhetorical tradition of President Kennedy and others, trying to summon the country to a great and necessary endeavor.”

■ By late September, however, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz was frothing at ObamaCare’s opponents, accusing them of wanting Americans to die: “The Republicans lie! They want to see you dead! They’d rather make money off your dead corpse!” Two weeks later, MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan seconded the inflammatory charge: “There are people that are actually trying to derail health care in order to take down Obama, even if it means half the country dies.”

■ On her September 18 CBS Evening News, Katie Couric touted a “Harvard study” that claimed “nearly 45,000 American deaths every year are linked to a lack of insurance.” Neither Couric nor reporter Jim Axelrod noted the “study” was really produced by a group pushing an end to private insurance in favor of a single-payer system.

■ After the Senate dropped provisions for government-run insurance, ABC’s Charles Gibson fretted on December 18: “Without a public option, without an expansion of Medicare, is it better than nothing?” ABC’s Tim Johnson vouched for the bill’s liberalism: “I would personally prefer to have the public option....But what’s left is not insignificant.” Two days later, on ABC’s This Week, Cokie Roberts argued people were against the bill out of ignorance: “A lot of people are going to like it a whole lot once they see what’s in it....It’s just a question of understanding it.”

■ Anti-ObamaCare candidate Scott Brown’s victory was treated as dour news by the media. NBC’s Meredith Vieira asked Brown about his post-election phone call to Ted Kennedy’s widow: “How comfortable was that for both of you, knowing that you plan to do whatever you can to derail what Ted Kennedy called, called ‘the cause of his lifetime,’ which is health care reform?”

■ After a year of setbacks, reporters were still quick to crown Obama victorious after his health care “summit” with Republicans. On the CBS Evening News, Chip Reid insisted that Obama had laid the groundwork for jamming through a final bill, saying the President had succeeded in showing “that the Republicans are the party of no, they won’t compromise, and he now has no choice but to move ahead with Democrats alone.”

No conservative quest has ever been treated to the helpful press coverage ObamaCare has received. If it fails, liberals can’t blame a hostile media.

Video Surfaces of John Lewis "N*****" Incident at Tea Party Protest on Capitol Hill

A video has surfaced this evening of the incident today involving civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and Tea Party protesters on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Lewis has alleged that he was called a n***** by the protesters.

Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN), who was walking with Rep. Lewis, says he heard the word n***** fifteen times.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) claims "It was a chorus" of people yelling "n*****."

The video, filmed by Marooned in Marin and posted at YouTube, shows Reps. Lewis and Carson walking together, with Rep. Cleaver several yards behind as they fight their way through the Tea Party patriots like they were in 1965 Selma, Alabama.

Reps. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) and Maxine Waters (D-CA) are also walking behind Lewis in the video.

IT AIN’T OVER ‘TIL IT’S OVER, and the ObamaCare bill is clearly wildly unpopular. But if it does pass, the media message will be that the whole Tea Party movement has been a waste — when, in fact, without it this would have been passed nearly a year ago, and with far less political cost.

And political cost is the key. If this bill passes, there will be a brutal political cost, as spelled out in the sign below: You Vote for ObamaCare, We Vote For Your Opponent.

That’s what the next eight months or so will be about, and I don’t think that many of the folks you’ve seen demonstrating will give up and go home.

Forget CDOs and other inventions of the great credit bubble. That’s all old hat. Investment bankers are moving on to an area of securities trading that is potentially even more lucrative, and what’s more, even has a social value – saving the planet. Or supposedly so, anyway. I’ve long had my suspicions about the great carbon trading bubble, and I’ve had them pretty much confirmed by a brilliant article which has been drawn to my attention by one Mark Schapiro in Harper’s magazine.

According to Mr Schapiro, carbon trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth. Since Kyoto signatories bought in to the cap and trade concept in 2005, there have been more than $300bn carbon transactions, prompting several investment banks, including Goldman Sachs and Barclays, to set up their own carbon trading desks. But that’s just the start. If President Obama and his supporters can institute a cap-and-trade system in the United States – and that’s a big if for this increasingly marooned presidency – demand could explode into a $2 to $3 trillion market.

And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon credits, or finding carbon reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible.

“Carbon developers”, many of them employed by large multinationals, travel the world in search of carbon reduction projects to sell, while firms of carbon accountants have been established to verify on the United Nations’ behalf that those reductions are real. The whole thing, though well intentioned, looks wide open to abuse and scams. ...

There is a further argument to be made against socialized medicine, and indeed the entire structure of the modern-day welfare state; they are all bankrupt. And purposefully creating or continuing a bankrupt system is immoral. It is theft, and it’s every bit as much a crime as grabbing your gun and robbing a bank, or starting a Ponzi scheme and defrauding the pigeons.

Again: They are all bankrupt.

I look around the world, and everywhere I see debt, default, and denial. The stunted among us, those permanent adolescents who believe in the new, man-made “positive rights”, lie, cheat, and steal in defense of their failed belief system. The plain, simple truth is this: Every comprehensive welfare state is deeply in debt; all of them are run by thieves stealing from the future, whether through deficit spending or job crushing (and therefore future crushing) tax rates. They are run by amoral children, who value their wants and wishes far above reality or rationality.

And did I mention they are all bankrupt?

The story of the past 60 years should be called “Failure to Launch”. The changes in our societies have led to the takeover by the man-child, and sadly, those truncated fools think themselves evolution’s prize. We are stopping individual human development in a semi-larval stage.

When a child is born, he is naught but a demanding ball of entitlement, and justifiably so. He cannot meet his needs, he can only demand, and demand again. As a child grows, he gradually sheds the neediness, gradually loses entitlement as his abilities improve and his skills expand. That child enters adulthood only when the last of those entitlements is gone. That’s the choice; entitlement or adulthood. One or the other.

That is the story of the world today. Mewling man-children, demanding endless benefits from a bankrupt state, all the while ruling from their highchairs as only a child could — cruel, vindictive, arbitrary, petty tyrants. Modern-day Sun Kings, dazzled by their own imaginary brightness.

Once she pulls the lever and passes the unconstitutional Healthcare Rationing bill this evening, the Red Queen will perform an act on par with Grand Moff Tarkin ordering the Death Star to fire upon the halcyon haven of Alderaan — using the Empire’s ultimate weapon to obliterate perceived enemies and flex enormous imperial muscle.

20 Ways ObamaCare Will Take Away Our Freedoms

If some reports are to be believed, the Democrats will pass the Senate health care bill with some reconciliation changes later today. Thus, it is worthwhile to take a comprehensive look at the freedoms we will lose.

Of course, the bill is supposed to provide us with security. But it will result in skyrocketing insurance costs and physicians leaving the field in droves, making it harder to afford and find medical care. We may be about to live Benjamin Franklin’s adage, “People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.”

The sections described below are taken from HR 3590 as agreed to by the Senate and from the reconciliation bill as displayed by the Rules Committee.

1. You are young and don’t want health insurance? You are starting up a small business and need to minimize expenses, and one way to do that is to forego health insurance? Tough. You have to pay $750 annually for the “privilege.” (Section 1501)

2. You are young and healthy and want to pay for insurance that reflects that status? Tough. You’ll have to pay for premiums that cover not only you, but also the guy who smokes three packs a day, drink a gallon of whiskey and eats chicken fat off the floor. That’s because insurance companies will no longer be able to underwrite on the basis of a person’s health status. (Section 2701).

3. You would like to pay less in premiums by buying insurance with lifetime or annual limits on coverage? Tough. Health insurers will no longer be able to offer such policies, even if that is what customers prefer. (Section 2711).

4. Think you’d like a policy that is cheaper because it doesn’t cover preventive care or requires cost-sharing for such care? Tough.

Rep. Jack Kingston (R-FL) just read off a list of the bribes and kickbacks that were never taken out of the democrat’s health care takeover bill:

 

We nominate Bart Stupak for that special place in American history reserved for men who abandon all principles, forsake their countries, their Gods, and their values, and do something unimaginably terrible to bring eternal disgrace upon themselves and all their descendants.

Stupak is particularly ignoble because only a fool would believe a presidential Executive Order will prohibit tax dollars from funding abortions.  Executive Orders are not the law.

Frank J. at IMAO wouldn’t use that title, but I will. Numerous news media outlets have reported that certain members of the CBC were insulted with racial epithets during the course of protesting yesterday.  The specific accusation most often repeated is that when Andre Carson (D-IN) and John Lewis (D-Ga) left the Cannon House Office Building yesterday, they were met with a crowd that chanted the “n-word” at them repeatedly.  Frank J. had an excellent rundown of all the media outlets who credulously reported the word of these lying race pimps despite the total absence of any video or audio evidence to the contrary.

It turns out, it’s not just that there’s a lack of evidence that this ever happened, there’s actually video evidence of the scene in question which absolutely proves that Carson and Lewis are full of crap:

I don’t know if these two idiots are just unaware that protesters and activists tend to carry video cameras everywhere they go now in order to catch news as it happens, or if (more likely) they just figured that their completely fabricated story fit a pre-existing narrative the media would be happy to credulously pass on.  The sad thing is that it appears to have worked.  I won’t hold my breath for all the media who slandered the Tea Party protesters to retract and publicly these two out for the liars they are, though. 

Really, it’s sad in a way.  Racism still does exist in this country, but political crooks like Carson and Lewis have turned the owrd into a joke for the sake of their own political gain.  Well done, fellas - way to serve the cause.

Since the Democrats last night offered anecdote-after-anecdote in order to justify the passage of Obamacare, I guess anecdotes are now completely fair entries into the debate. Let me offer two of them.

A friend of mine listened to the healthcare vote while driving home from a hospital, where he’d spent the day with his 80 year-old father.

His father is a robust man, fully in his wits, who only retired “for good” about six months ago. He had retired from his job as a line man and became bored after a few years of retirement (“how many times can I clean out the gutters and fix the boat engine?”) so he had become a part-time flag man -the guy who flags traffic as roads are repaired- for about a decade.

Over the winter my friend’s father went for a routine physical, during which (and through subsequent testing) it was discovered he had lymphoma, and lung cancer.

The two cancers were not connected -they were two separate events in his body- and so the lymphoma was addressed first. Mr. K. spent the winter going through chemo. This week, the lung cancer and one lobe of his lung was removed, and the doctors feel pretty confident that the pathology report will show additional tissue to be clean.

Mr K., as you might expect, is feeling pretty lousy right now, but he has hope. “In about six to eight weeks, you can do everything you ever did,” the doctors told him. Good news for a man who likes to stay busy.

As my friend was driving home last night, he couldn’t help but think back to the “healthcare townhall” President Obama held, where a woman talked about her 105 year old mother, who was in excellent health thanks to a pacemaker inserted when she was 100 years old by doctors who saw her “joy for life” and ignored her age. The woman wondered if Obamacare was going to be interested in giving her mother the sort of medical attention she currently enjoys, or will she simply be considered “too old,” when the bureaucrats who will now decide how public monies for health care are spent, consider her case.

Obama’s answer was, unsurprising. He said many words -he always does- but not the words “your mom will get the exact same level of care she now enjoys.”

In fact, he ended his remarks with, “…maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.”

Remembering this, my friend wondered: under Obamacare, would his father, at age 80, have been denied chemo and surgery, and simply offered palliative care as he was sent home to die, when he is a man who has the spirit and drive to enjoy many more years, with proper medical care?

A man who worked hard all his life, paid his taxes, played by the rules and served his nation in the military should be able to hope for more, in his old age, than “take the painkiller,” shouldn’t he?

We spent last night at a birthday party, with the debate on in the background, and one SIL told me of a friend whose mother came to the US, from Europe, because she could not get vascular surgery in her country. Over 70, it turns out, was “too old” for such a waste of public money.

“But for goodness sake,” said my SIL, “Mom and Dad both had surgeries in their 70’s; that’s when a lot of people have vascular surgeries, stents, all kinds of procedures…”

Well…maybe not so many, any more.

One Thing That's 100% Guaranteed: The Healthcare Bill Will NEVER Be Repealed

Already Republicans plan on introducing a bill this week to repeal last night's historic healthcare vote.

Obviously that's going nowhere.

But looking out, Republicans will probably try to run on repeal in the runup until November. It's possible that will play okay at the ballot (we don't know) but anyone who thinks this is a realistic prospect is smoking something illegal.

First of all, to repeal the vote would be just as difficult legislatively as passing healthcare was, so just think of how hard that was. Republicans would need 60 pro-repeal votes in the Senate to defeat a Democratic filibuster. And remember, they'd need a President who wouldn't veto the bill (i.e. not Obama or any Democrat).

But even that's putting too fine a point on it. Here's the real story, and it gets down to the fact that this new bureaucratic superstructure is now permanently ossified into our federal government.

Enacting A Lie

Health Overhaul: Sunday's vote exposed the ugly truth that ObamaCare is not really about health care at all. It's all about who pays for it and who controls it — in effect a massive wealth-redistribution scheme.

Those who believe this will lead to some medical nirvana will likely be disappointed. Fact is, this poorly designed monstrosity will lead to lower-quality care, higher costs, fewer practicing physicians, higher taxes and fewer jobs.

We've done more than 150 editorials in the past year or so documenting these problems. Democrats surely understand them. Yet, despite a recent CNN poll showing that 59% of Americans oppose ObamaCare, Congress approved it anyway.

Why? Because it's not really about health care. It's the largest wealth grab in American history, masquerading as health care "reform," another step in the socialization of Americans' income in the name of "fairness" and "spread(ing) the wealth around," as Obama himself has put it.

That's why we call the program a lie.

The idea behind all this, simply put, is control. This is a vast expansion of government that will require as much as $3 trillion in added spending over a decade. All claims of deficit neutrality are a joke.

A Turning Point In Dismantling Of America

With the passage of the legislation letting the federal government take control of the country's medical care system, a major turning point has been reached in the dismantling of America's values and institutions.

Even the massive transfer of crucial decisions from millions of doctors and patients to Washington bureaucrats and advisory panels — as momentous as that is — does not measure the full impact of this largely unread and certainly unscrutinized legislation.

If the current legislation does not entail the transmission of all our individual medical records to Washington, it will take only an administrative regulation or, at most, an executive order of the president to do that.

In my article from Sept 2009 titled Why Government Health Care Will Pass - IT IS A GIVEN. HERE'S WHY (vanity) I predicted it would be rammed down our throats regardless of any campaign ramifications. The reason is they win by passing it, and have now won entirely. Let me go onto to tell you what is now going to happen. They are outplaying you (or rather the republican's it's .. well, frankly, embarrasing)

1) The new health bill can never be, nor ever will it be repealed, it will be the law of the land.
2) All the state lawsuits against it will come to nothing.
3) Within a matter of a few weeks Healthcare will fall off the radar and Amnesty will be front and center, and it too will pass, and they will then have healthcare being legal citizens.
4) There will be 20 to 30 million more very energized voters in the Democratic camp hungry to keep them in power and ensure they maintain thier free health care (paid for by hard working Americans). This will take the pain out of any backlash in the upcoming elections. The Republicans and Tea Partiers will tear each other apart like fools fighting in a burning house, but they can do nothing else, the RNC is on the other team.

Like me playing my 8 year old son in game of chess, the opposition will be picked apart. My son and daughter were playing each other and my son won a few times, he came in bragging he was going to mop the floor with me, he managed to take only a single pawn and he was in checkmate, stunned.

The republicans think the fight is on, however, the democrats are looking 4 to 5 moves down the road, health care won't even be in the news in a month or so, it will be a given that it's the law of the land as the Amnesty debate rages on (allowing the MSM to ingore all opposition and voices to the Health Care bill).

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released today found that 59 percent of Americans surveyed opposed the Obamacare. 39 percent favored it.

Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s favorability rating is at 11%.

And, for the first time, a CNN poll has found that a majority of Americans disapprove of socialist President Obama’s job performance.

Last night the Democrat party died as it drove a spear through the torso of the Constitution and passed legislation that the majority of Americans overwhelmingly opposed. All summer long Americans filled town halls, emailed, called, and faxed their lawmakers, and they were forsaken. They were called Nazis, racists, homophobes; they were threatened, beaten, and called stupid because they disagreed with the minority who feels that the government should run our lives. Our lawmakers unofficially stopped representing us last spring.

Last night, our legislators officially broke the contract with America that is the Constitution.

The Day After

As a business owner with 28 employees, I've had much to contemplate after the passage of the "historic" bill. I cannot possibly provide health insurance to my workers as my payroll exceeds 55 percent of total revenue. I consulted with my crew leaders and have given them the choice of a 12 percent pay cut or we must eventually release three men. Our $1.2 million payroll translates to around $100,000 in annual penalties added to our tax burden because we cannot afford to provide health insurance. We have decided to proceed with firing three men and will do so within the next few months. We will take shortcuts on the service for our customers to somehow make up for their loss. Our business will survive this setback. I'm sure the three men who will lose their jobs as a direct result of this bill will be comforted in knowing they now have health insurance.

This is what Palin was talking about in getting involved … we can run better candidates in the primaries who will have the guts to repeal all the crap being passed.

The Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy, outlined below, entails a tried-and-true, peaceful, Constitutional, ballot box solution to our present political predicament. The procedures and system for this solution have been in existence for decades. Obama used them.

Do Not Waste Your Time.

If you think you already have the solution for stopping the Democrats’ headlong rush to destroy our country, I don’t want to waste your time. Stop reading.

Stop wasting your time and do not read any further if you will not go to a Republican Party meeting or walk a precinct on behalf of a candidate. If the future of your country is worth a few hours a month outside your comfort zone, read on.

Just one or two generations ago, our forefathers all knew their precinct committeemen. My dad did (I’m 53 and I remember, when I was knee-high to a howitzer, the Kennedy-Nixon contest – my dad was, alas, a Kennedy guy. But I still adored my dad. He was my “main hero.”) My dad was a precinct committeeman.

Obama Used The Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy To Defeat Billary.

Need more recent evidence that the Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy can work? Obama and his minions used this Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy to defeat Hillary and Bill Clinton and the Democrat Party establishment in the Democrat Party presidential primaries. Obama and his backers came out of nowhere to defeat the complacent “powers that be” of the Democrat Party. You don’t have to believe me – see the evidence with your own eyes. Search YouTube using the search words obama precinct captain. That search will bring back many videos of brand new Democrat Party precinct committeemen (also referred to in some states as precinct captains) explaining how they were recruited into the Democrat Party’s precinct committeeman ranks and how important their efforts will be for Obama to win the nomination.

This strategy has already worked in 2009 in Nevada and Minnesota. And Utah grass roots conservatives have united there to INVADE the Republican Party to vote in the upcoming 2009 Party primary elections at the GOP state convention.

Obama and those who write the speeches for his Teleprompter now want to further solidify their power through ACORN and by taking over the Census. All the more reason for conservatives to implement the Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy in the Republican Party.

We need more than feel-good Tea Parties. Do not get me wrong; the Tea Parties are great for networking and for physically demonstrating our numbers and wrath to the existing officeholders. The April 15, 2008 Tea Parties affected Obama and his minions. They first tried to ignore them. After the Tea Parties received media coverage, Obama and those who write his teleprompter scripts started to bad-mouth them. Obama’s friends in the mainstream media ridiculed the Tea Partiers. But, we need more than rallies and choir-preaching on internet blogs and web sites. Let’s face it – no Tea Party on April 15, 2008, had the numbers that Obama had at many of his rallies. Not one of those Tea Parties would have even filled up half of a Major League ball park. Those are the facts. With Twitter and Facebook, etc., those numbers increased, as we saw on 9.12.2009 in Washington, DC and around the country. But, here’s the bottom line: unless those Tea Parties translate into election victories in 2010, they are worthless.

A Few Hours A Month Is All It Takes — And It’s Easy.

Rather than spending a few hours at a Tea Party, do YOU have a couple of hours a month to spend on a weeknight and, perhaps, on a Saturday, to take our country back? Is your, and your children’s, liberty not worth at least that?

Where do the candidates on our primary ballots come from? An estimated 95 per cent of the candidates of the Republican and Democrat parties who win the primary election are those who are endorsed by the leadership of those parties.

Do You Know Who Elects The Party Leaders? Did You Elect Them?

Who elects the leadership of the parties? Do you know? Are you a registered Republican? Guess what? As a “mere” registered Republican voter, without more, you DID NOT have a vote in the election of the present leadership of the Republican Party. Sorry, but those are the facts.

ONLY elected precinct committeemen get to vote for the leadership of the Party. Do I yet have your attention? Ponder the fact that ONLY elected precinct committeemen get to elect the Party leadership. Don’t you want to have a vote in those elections?

About 3,141 counties exist in the United States. Each has a county party organization. And, those county organizations almost always endorse candidates in the party primaries. And, usually, those party-endorsed candidates win. Tired of the kind of Repubican In Name Only Republicans who are winning the primaries? Then DO SOMETHING REAL and become a Republican Party precinct committeeman! Guess what? About half of the Republican Party precinct committeeman slots, nationwide, are unfilled!

Do I yet have your attention? Has the light bulb above your head clicked on yet? In some counties, like the one where I reside, Maricopa County, Arizona, within which Phoenix sits, TWO-THIRDS of the precinct committeeman slots in the Republican Party sat unfilled on Election Day, 2008. Well, it’s now January, 2010, and we’re now at 53 per cent strength instead of where we were a year ago, 31 per cent.

Spend a few moments and picture this in your mind’s eye: thousands of conservatives flock to the Republican Party and join it as precinct committeemen. And, in the next internal party elections, these conservatives (you, me and others) elect NEW, CONSERVATIVE leadership. (Or, instead, these same conservatives (me, excepted) sit behind their computer screens and put first on their priority list, instead of second, writing that next, great blog post that is going to, somehow, save the republic.)

Exit your mind’s eye. Back to reality. The Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy CAN work. Now. I have seen it work first hand. Click on the Nevada and Utah links here for more proof. I was, just by chance, part of achieving this kind of outcome in my legislative district in the 2008 internal party elections. Somewhat by design, somewhat by chance (I was one of those “newbies” who just, by chance, came into the Party PC ranks), conservatives, in my legislative district, defeated the old-guard, moderate Republican candidates by electing conservatives to the leadership positions. Same thing happened at the county and state levels. (Don’t know what a legislative district is? Hang in there – an explanation follows.) But the margins were razor-thin. And since then, we just elected 5 conservatives to the county Executive Guidance Council five “at large” positions. With all the new conservative precinct committeemen we recruited, those 5 won over 80 per cent of the vote on the first ballot. One long-tiime John McCain moderate got less than six per cent of the vote. The conservatives won because about a thousand conservatives left their keyboards for a couple of hours each month and got into the REAL political ball game. So, I and others continue to try to recruit more conservatives into the precinct committeeman ranks. We try to get people off the sidelines and into the ACTUAL, REAL ball game. The rough-and-tumble hard work of actually showing up – God forbid – at a Republican Party legislative district meeting once a month. Instead of typing away to the conservative choir on the internet. Egads! Oh, the misery! For example, on July 4th, 2009, I attended two Tea Parties in an attempt, with posters and flyers and conversation, to recruit conservatives into the Republican Party precinct committeeman ranks. Several other PCs, at my urging, committed to do the same and helped me.

Every state is divided up into legislative districts from which your state assembly and senate candidates are elected. Each legislative district is divided up into precincts. Precincts generally, in a city, are about the size of five or ten city blocks, depending upon the population density of the city. (My precinct, in suburban Tempe, Arizona, is about a half mile on each side.) Each precinct is allowed a number of precinct committeemen. For example, in Arizona, each party is allowed one precinct committeeman, plus an additional one for each 125 registered voters of that party as of March 1 of the general election year. (My precinct is allowed to have 8 precinct committeemen, and three of the slots are vacant – I’m working on filling those vacant slots with conservatives.) Arizona has over 2,239 precincts, with 1,142 in Maricopa County. Two thirds of the 6,231 Republican Party precinct committeeman slots in Maricopa County currently were unfillied on Election Day, 2008. Not any more. Were over half strength now.

So, What Does One Have To Do To Become A Precinct Committeeman?

The requirements vary from state to state, but Arizona is typical. One has to get 10 registered Republican or independent voters from their precinct to sign a nomination form requesting that their name be placed on the primary ballot. (In Ohio, for example, one needs only 5 signatures.) Most precinct committeemen run unopposed. I was able to get my ten signatures in fewer than three hours on a Saturday. As suggested by the existing PCs, I got five extra signatures just to be safe (people move!). Before gathering your signatures, the Party will give you a computer print out showing where all the voters in your precinct live. And how often they voted in the last four elections. You go to the homes of those voters who ALWAYS vote. They will be happy to sign your nomination papers. It’s fun. I took my impressionable then-eight year-old boys along. A great, real-life civics lesson.

Because most precinct committeemen run unopposed, most counties, to save money, get the parties to agree that all non-contested precinct committeeman candidates be omitted from the ballot to save printing costs. That’s one reason why most voters don’t know about the office of precinct committeeman. Another reason: public schools no longer teach Civics.

So, what to do? About 200,000 precinct committeemen slots nationwide in the Republican Party are vacant. Hmmm. The NRA has about 4 million members. Think we could get some of them to become Republican Party precinct committeemen? Or Federalist Society members? Or other Constitution-loving folks?

If our existing elected Republican Party leaders will not respect our Constitution, then we must kick them out of office and replace them It’s a pure numbers game. The more Constitution-respecting conservatives join the precinct committeeman ranks, the more Constitution-respecting, and conservative, the leadership will be. And then, that conservative, Constitution-respecting leadership will endorse the candidate in the primary who is most faithful to the Constitution.

Is this all new to you? Why? Think about it. I was taught all of this in Civics in seventh grade in my public school in 1968. (I grew up in a rural county in the Midwest in the Sixties and early Seventies – we learned this stuff and saw its implementation first-hand.) Plus, I had the benefit of having a great dad (an Army veteran of Korean War vintage), who was a city councilman, county board member and county board chairman (among other public offices), and he taught me all of this early in life. My 1968 school class photo shows me wearing a “NIXON NOW” button despite the fact my dad HATED Dick Nixon! We had great political discussions! God, how I miss him (my dad, not Nixon!). And I had a couple of uncles who were involved in party politics. One was a mayor of a small town (he drove a truck from Normandy Beach to Berlin and fought in the Battle of the Bulge), the other a dairy farmer and rural town clerk. Their highest academic degree was a high school diploma. Back when that meant something. They are at the top of my list of heroes.

One hesitates to weigh in on this mud-slinging for fear of getting muddy oneself. But neither should commentary on Republican and tea-party reaction to Sunday’s House vote be left to the suddenly self-righteous Democratic left: After all, it’s their appalling disregard for democratic principles and processes that gave rise to the weekend’s demonstrations and outbursts. So a few points are in order, simply to put things in perspective.

First, let’s not leap to factual conclusions. Last evening the Lehrer News Hour reported (along with Politico this morning) that Rep. Randy Neugebauer shouted “baby killer” as Rep. Bart Stupak was speaking Sunday night. Yet NPR reported that Neugebauer actually shouted “It’s a baby killer” — referring to the bill, not to Stupak. Neither version is acceptable, but there is a difference. Likewise, claims about protesters taunts should be treated cautiously as well, especially since they’ve been denied, and as yet no footage has emerged to support them. Yet we see here at the Arena this morning that Harvard’s Theda Skocpol is writing, without a shred of evidence, that ”Quite a few Republican public officials are even flirting with threats of violence against political figures they oppose.” So let’s not pretend that the right has a corner on irresponsibility.

Second, even if the claims about protester’s taunts prove to be true, how is that a warrant for condemning the entire tea-party movement, or the Republican party, as many on the left are doing? No broad political movement can control its every “member.” Yet we find people like House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn saying that GOP leaders “ought to be ashamed of themselves for bringing these people here to Washington.” Perhaps Rep. Clyburn has forgotten that we still have the right to protest. That’s what the first tea party was about. And let’s remember that George Washington had to wade into the “mob” from time to time to keep order.

And that brings me to a final point. The symbolism of the Democratic left’s hostility to the “tea baggers” should not go unnoticed. The tea party movement’s roots are in the American Revolution. These ordinary Americans are protesting the Washington ”Establishment” — which presently is the Democratic juggernaut – much as American Patriots were protesting the oppressive British Establishment that was “eating out their substance” with “a long train of abuses and usurpations.” The Democratic left should think long and hard about those parallels. The times they are a-changin’.

I should also note — as Dana points out above — that when goons, wearing SEIU t-shirts even, beat up Ken Gladney and called him a “nigger” the press wasn’t interested at all despite the presence of video, and charges filed, while it’s been happy to run with a story about tea partiers that the video contradicts. So the whole have-you-no-decency routine here seems kinda contrived and desperate.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Members of Congress playing the race card. “These people are very powerful members of Congress. It’s unbecoming to act like you’re some woebegone victim.”

I’ve seen your coverage of the “racial slur” charges on the Hill last weekend, and I know there’s no way to prove a negative, but the video posted on Instapundit seems to show Congressman Jesse Jackson filming the crowd with two Flip video cameras as he and his colleagues walk toward the Cannon Building. Since he apparently walked the entire way with those cameras rolling, at least one of them presumably would have picked up any racial slurs that were uttered along the way. Interestingly, I don’t think Congressman Jackson has released the video he filmed on Saturday – maybe it’s out there, but I can’t find it anywhere. And I’m pretty sure that if there were racial slurs captured on his camera, he would’ve had the clips out there in a heartbeat. In any case, he should probably release whatever footage he shot, just to add some additional transparency to the discussion.

It doesn’t appear to bother Bob Herbert at The New York Times approves when his paper publishes crude offensive sexual jokes about conservative protesters. He didn’t say anything when his comrade called tea party patriots- “teabaggers.”

But, he sure gets steamed about fake racist accusations by the liberal media and Huffington Post.
This is what the radical far left columnist Bob Herbert wrote today:

In Washington on Saturday, opponents of the health care legislation spit on a black congressman and shouted racial slurs at two others, including John Lewis, one of the great heroes of the civil rights movement. Barney Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat who is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, was taunted because he is gay.

At some point, we have to decide as a country that we just can’t have this: We can’t allow ourselves to remain silent as foaming-at-the-mouth protesters scream the vilest of epithets at members of Congress — epithets that The Times will not allow me to repeat here.

…But The Times will allow him to repeat “teabagger” as many times as he wants.
That’s just perfect.

Of course this story was debunked earlier.
The liberal media reported that tea party protesters shouted racial epithats (the n-word) at black Congressional members as they walked from the Longworth office building to the Rayburn office building on Saturday. One Congressional member even claimed it “was a chorus” of racist hate. But, a video released after the incident debunked these claims. There was no spitting, no shouts of N*gger, and no “chorus” of racist hate.

It was all made up.
The only victims were the tea party patriots who were slandered by the state-run media.

But, apparently Bob Herbert doesn’t care. It would ruin his fake hate story.

Obamacare contains a critical contradiction that is bound to result in the total collapse of the American health ins. industry. As the Martin Feldstein article in a November Washington Post article points out, if the fines for not buying ins. are set too low, it's financially advantageous to pay them and forgo ins. altogether.

Since the bill prohibits health ins. providers from denying ins. based on pre-existing conditions, it may be cheaper in many instances to wait until you are sick before getting coverage.

This will set in motion a progressive unbalancing of health ins. whereby the pool of healthy people in an ins. scheme becomes swamped by the sick. Premiums must therefore skyrocket. But since Obamacare also promises to slap price controls on health ins. the system is set to become vastly unprofitable. At some point not too far down the road, the whole health care ins. system in the U.S. will utterly fail like Chrysler and GM.

At that point, there will be increasing calls for the outright nationalization of the whole mess, which was Obama's goal all along.

Someday I’ll Meet You Again

Megan McArdle is willing to bet that there will no improvement in infant mortality or death rates over the next decade beyond those trends which were already established before its enactment. Nor will any of the reductions in bankruptcies nor costs claimed by health care “reform” advocates be observed. McArdle is waiting to see whether anybody will take her up. I think someone should. After all if health care “reform” is an improvement then its benefits should be measurable. If it’s not measurable then its not an improvement. But maybe she’s not broadminded enough.

Those who are reluctant to take up the McArdle bet are offering up another benefit. The President has “saved” his Presidency and shown that he could succeed where Bill Clinton could not. That doesn’t mean they’ll take McArdle’s bet; it only means they’re changing the currency of scorekeeping. They’re bringing history into the picture. Barack Obama has achieved something “historic” and that has a value which transcends mere death rates or dollars and cents.  David Frum appears to share McArdle’s doubts about healthcare “reform”’s efficacy while adopting the historical political scorecard. Frum argues that by not playing nice with Obama, the Republicans passed up a chance to mitigate the bill’s worst features.

13 states sued the federal government this morning after President Barack Obama signed his Obamacare bill into law.
The AP reported:

Republican attorneys general from 13 states are suing the federal government to stop the massive health care overhaul, claiming it’s unconstitutional.

The lawsuit was filed immediately after President Barack Obama signed the overhaul bill Tuesday. It names the U.S. departments of Health and Human Services, Treasury and Labor.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is taking the lead in the lawsuit. Attorneys general from South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, Utah, Pennsylvania, Alabama, South Dakota, Louisiana, Idaho, Washington and Colorado are joining in. Other GOP attorneys general may join the lawsuit later or sue separately.

The lawsuit was filed in Pensacola after the Democratic president signed the bill the House passed Sunday night.

“The Constitution nowhere authorizes the United States to mandate, either directly or under threat of penalty, that all citizens and legal residents have qualifying health care coverage,” the lawsuit says.

After their recent imposition of a Eugenics based health care reform against the will of the American people, the Progressives are now planning on revisiting Cap-N-Trade. Nevermind the fact that there is no Global Warming and in fact temperatures are cooling, the Left is going after this bill anyway. Assisted by Progressive Republican quisling Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Marxist traitor John Kerry (D-MA) is leading the charge in the Senate. The bill is nothing more than a power grab by the government to impose controls over the economy. This is another step in the Left’s goal of a Neo-Fedual society controlled by Elites.

After a hard-fought victory on health care reform, President Barack Obama’s allies in Congress are setting their sights on climate change — but some on both sides are already crying foul.

Environmentalists hope Obama will seize on new political momentum to push forward climate legislation, though some observers question whether he would seek another divisive vote as November congressional elections approach.

Senator John Kerry, who has spearheaded climate legislation, said that White House officials can now “pour their energy and attention” into the issue after Sunday’s down-to-the-wire vote on expanding health care coverage.

This bill is the ultimate example of how Progressives really believe they are God-like divine beings. Do they really think they can control the weather? Apparently. That is the logic behind the bill, that they can control the climate! This is just another example of the narcissism of the Totalitarian Progressives and their agenda of control.

Update:I am not giving the phony Independent Joe Lieberman (I-CT) a pass here. He’s a Progressive Neo-Wilsonian so he implied also in this post as well. My focus was on the 2 main Culprits, Traitor Kerry and Quisling Lindsey.

Awhile back, Krugman loudly insisted that if you ban pre-existing conditions clauses, you also have to mandate insurance. While the new bill has a mandate, it doesn't begin until 2014, and the penalty clause is absurdly small. Here's what passes for "promoting individual responsibility":

Requires most individuals to obtain acceptable health insurance coverage or pay a penalty of $95 for 2014, $325 for 2015, $695 for 2016 (or, up to 2.5 percent of income in 2016), up to a cap of the national average bronze plan premium. Families will pay half the amount for children, up to a cap of up to a cap of $2,250 per family. After 2016, dollar amounts are indexed. If affordable coverage is not available to an individual, they will not be penalized.

In practical terms, then, "Heads I win, tails I break even" remains the winning strategy. And as adverse selection drives up the drive of insurance, paying the uninsured penalty until you're seriously ill gets smarter and smarter.

Got that? Avoid getting health insurance and pay the fines. When you get sick, buy health insurance. It's that easy.

More states are joining the core group of state attorneys general who are suing over the constitutionality.

The repeal-the-bill-movement is burgeoning.

For the first time, a CNN poll has found that a majority of Americans disapprove of President Obama’s job performance.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday, 51 percent of respondents disapprove of Obama’s job performance and 46 percent approve of it.

Earlier this evening, we had a troll who decided to infect a couple of threads with some racist comments. The morons responded admirably with anger, wit and impressive amounts of profanity aimed at the idiot. While there's nothing more beautiful than a moron flash mob tearing into rancid troll meat, it would be really helpful to those of us who clean up the troll's droppings if you guys didn't quote the offensive statements.

As the president and Congress grow more unpopular, I think we're going to see more of these types of Axelturfing crapweasels. The left is going to do whatever it can to paint conservative blogs as hotbeds of racist teabaggin' rage. So please let the co-bloggers know when and where we can find the Moby in question, and we'll zap it.

Oh, and please keep flaming the ever-loving crap out of the trolls. Not only is it the right thing to do, it's extremely fun to watch.

Shocker: Obama doesn't sign abortion EO

But he promises he'll do it "soon."

President Obama signed the Senate health care bill into law Tuesday. He did not sign the executive order on abortion negotiated with Michigan Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak in an 11th-hour arrangement that may well have saved the entire health care reform effort.

A White House official told Fox, Obama will not sign the Executive Order Tuesday and has set no specific date to do so. Stupak predicted Obama would sign the order later this week. The White House said only that Obama would sign the order "soon."

In two celebratory speeches Tuesday - one at the bill's signing, the other at the Interior Department with health care advocates - Obama said nothing about the abortion issue or the executive order.

How stupid were Bart Stupak and the other so-called "pro-life Democrats" to get played on this? Not only is the executive order basically worthless, the president isn't even pretending to give a damn about the agreement he made.
