LOL Actually that’s pretty close to what it was like there. I was there during that time. They were all there. I am surprised Lefty Rosenthal died a natural death. Tony, Spilatro was the outside boss for the Chicago mob and really nasty. I road in elevators with these guys. Alan Gluck and the rest. I think Spilatro’s career began to unravel when he was caught robbing Bertha’s a high end furniture store. These are people you do not want to know. They are thugs.
All the stars that headlined there were told by the mob to be there. Cher had a terrible act; the Smothers Brothers were obnoxious, Didn’t meet Liberace; but I did his family and they were really lovely. Joan Rivers was the most foul mouthed person I have ever heard. Walked out on her act. Dean Martin was boring; Jim Varney who played Ernest fell flat on his face. So not everyone can play Vegas and get away with it. The best acts there were Sigfried and Roy and Wayne Newton was unbelievable. I like most people believed he was a real nerd. He wasn’t and he was worth every penny. He sang most of the time. Very few breaks.
Las Vegas at that time did not have a social structure like the rest of America. It was a man’s town; but it was exciting all of the time. Of course, I hated it for the first 3 months; but I got to where I liked it. If you were a woman at that time; you did not go into a casino by yourself. You were pretty much judged a prostitute. That one I will never understand.
