DENVER Sales of handguns, rifles and ammunition have surged in the last week, according to gun store owners around the nation who describe a wave of buyers concerned that an Obama administration will curtail their right to bear arms.
Hes a gun-snatcher, said Jim Pruett, owner of Jim Pruetts Guns and Ammo in northwest Houston, which was packed with shoppers on Thursday.
He wants to take our guns from us and create a socialist society policed by his own police force, added Mr. Pruett, a former radio personality, of President-elect Barack Obama.
Mr. Pruett said that sales last Saturday, just before Election Day, ran about seven times higher than a typical good Saturday.
A spot check by reporters in four other states easily found Mr. Pruetts comments echoed from both sides of the counter.
David Nelson, a co-owner of Montana Ordnance & Supply in Missoula, Mont., said his buyers were awake and aware and see a dangerous trend.
Mr. Nelson said sales at his store had risen about 30 percent since Mr. Obama declared his candidacy. People are concerned about overreaching legislation from Washington, he said. They are educating themselves on the Internet.
In Colorado, would-be gun buyers set a one-day record last Saturday with the highest number of background check requests in a 24-hour period, according to figures from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Were not really sure who is promoting the concept that a change in federal administrations might affect firearms possession rights, said an agency spokesman, Lance Clem...

What is clear is that every gun seller not to mention every advocacy group for gun ownership that depends on dues-paying members has an incentive to stoke the concern that can prompt a gun sale. Political uncertainty, gun dealers say, is great for business...

I just got home from applying for a CCW. And I was not the only one doing so either.
Oh, I don't know where people would get that idea...
Barack Hussein Obama has
A lot of these sales are to people who are buying guns they believe will come under a new AWB. They believe if they already have them, they will be granfathered in and be able to keep them. CA actually confiscated certain weapons.
I just love all the comments about how Obama isn’t anti-gun so no reason for buying now. Look at his record and statements. Gun stores here are doing a booming business...as well as the gun shows. I like HK’s myself.
In the past 4 weeks, I bought a Ruger P95 9mm, a Remington 870, and a .223.
Applied for my CCW today and am looking at getting a Kimber .45 and possibly a Ruger LCP for carry.
My fiancee is actually buying an AR-15 before they are made illegal.
Bought me a brand new 580 series Mini-14 Ranch Rifle a couple of weeks ago. The newer ones are quite a bit more accurate; mine shoots about the same groups that a stock Rock River AR-15 does at 50 yards. Got me some 20 round Ruger magazines for it. It’s a great little gun for plinking and elimination of varmints and vermin. And it’s a good companion if the SHTF.
bought my wife a berreta .22lr pistol this weekend. Gonna get a Springfield XD 45 compact as soon as money is available.
You forgot one:
“My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns.”
—Barack Obama, VPC Fund Raiser, 2007

Speaking of which do you know what a “blue label” means in reference to the Colt AR15s?
why would you apply for a ccw? you might as well send zero a letter with your name address and phone number. just stock up and keep your name off “the list” that will be targeted first. ccw is registration in sheeps clothing............regards - red
Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Yup. Forgot to add that one.
Why don’t we take time to think this through here...
First of all WHO is going to come take my guns? The police? There are barely enough to cover current crimes.
The “Civilian Security Force” - a bunch of liberal whiners and welfare wannabes? They are going to come to my house and demand my guns?
Have we never heard of civil war before? I can’t conceive of me handing my guns to anyone - EVER! I know literally hundreds of people who think like I do who live within 2 blocks of me. We would likely form our own militia and dare the brown shirts to march in and try to take our guns.
Excise tax of 500% on ammo - let’s see how long it takes for challenges to that law to get to the supreme court - by then Obama would be out of office.
I have plenty of ammo and plenty of guns to ensure a democratic society.
Have you looked at the Springfield XD-M? Think right now it comes in .40 only, but may be released in .45 ACP.
I wasn't aware of that and I live in Ca. Sure you aren't thinking about the AW registration that occured in 2000? No weapons were confiscated as I recall, only required to be registered. Some did, some didn't.
