There was no way a Republican was going to win this year because of the unpopularity of President Bush, and the economy. McCain came close...AFTER he picked Palin. Coincidence? I think not.

I disagree. They could have destroyed Obama with Wright and Black Liberation Theology and his other associations. In a sense it is good that the US has its first AA President, but they could have destroyed him if they wanted to.

They could have brought out all that stuff on Obama and pressed the attack during the debates when it would have done the most good. McCain didn't want to do it. He treated Obama with kid gloves and lauded him at one rally as "a good man from whom we have nothing to fear." Well if he thought so highly of Obama, who were the American people to disagree with his own judgment of his opponent? McCain's demise was entirely self-inflicted. And as they are wont to say, the rest was history.

But McCain was never going to do any of that, so you can't say that because we'll never know.

Wright got serious play--so much so that Obama had to make a speech about it. And he didn't suffer for it one bit. People talk about how McCain stayed away from Wright, but that's because we weren't pleased with the outcome the first time. Going to that particular well again would have woken up no one--do you really think people DIDN'T know about Wright? Of course they did. They just cared more about the economy, and they bought the "4 more years of Bush" bull because McCain is a Republican.

I think a lot of people are over-thinking this. McCain was a horrible candidate, and the media loved Obama--I think it's that simple.
