A White House climate czar in the offing? (Three guesses who it might be!)
The Financial Express of India/Reuters ^ | November 07, 2008

US environmental groups see Barack Obama’s presidential victory as a chance to undo the Bush legacy on global warming, and one idea they are discussing is the possibility of a White House climate czar.

Members of the environmental community in and around Washington say such a post could oversee various government agencies, including the Environmental protection agency and the interior department, to focus on tackling global warming and fostering clean energy to jump-start the flagging economy. For the first time, candidates and voters are really connecting the dots between energy, the environment and the economy, said Cathy Duvall, Sierra Club’s political director. She said at a news briefing that Obama had made it clear that investing in cleaner energy would be a top priority in his plan for economic recovery. One way to coordinate these interrelated issues would be to have one person in charge, based at the White House, according to sources in the environmental community familiar with the idea.

They said this could be part of a White House special council on energy and environment, analogous to the National Security Council. This kind of organization could be more effective than the Environmental Protection Agency has been under President George W Bush, one source said.

Obama made clear in his acceptance speech on Tuesday that he sees climate change as a critical problem, along with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the wilting economy. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime—two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century, the Illinois Democratic senator said in Chicago.

And I double-dare him to impose some sort of carbon trading tax scheme during this economic downturn!m

He'll do it. And you'll pay for it.

I was saying for a long time that Al Gore would be Obama’s VP or EPA shaman.

But this is close.

Does this person need a job?

On second thought, no -- he can go back to his profession of smearmongering.

John Travolta.

He can fly his own 747 to staff meetings.

“Oh please, you’re killin’ me here! Government handouts to “green” industries is the answer to the economic crisis? Can you say depression? Yes, I knew you could.”

By the way, how many windmills would it take to power a small city e.g. Orlando? Seriously, I have asked several “Greenies” and no one seems to know.

No drilling...... no nukes..... windmills...... windmills..... OMG!!!

Gore won’t do it. He would have to give up his carbon scam activities.

Those windmills are some of the ugliest things that I’ve ever seen. We have one right in the middle of downtown for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and I have to stare at it all day.

All the talk about tax cuts was a waste of time. This is where Obama will do incredible amounts of damage to the economy. He feels he’s justified to shut down entire industries. This will go great with the mortgage crisis.

Ya know, this is starting to look pretty serious. If all this actually happens we will have lunatic fanatics imposing impossible standards to achieve impossible goals. All in the name of “saving the planet” which is something they actually believe and which is a belief that will justify any measure they deem necessary to achieve their “salvation”. The fact that many of these people hold that human beings are the problem and that reduction of the human population is part of the solution does not bode well.

Even the better case scenarios involving these people are starting to look pretty bad.

This is a major economic disaster for the USA. I can’t believe that Barry is stupid enough to really believe in this nonsense, so he must be just be cynically catering to a Democratic interest group. We need a party that stright-forwardly opposes global warming hysteria.
