News has been circulating around GOP insiders for weeks that McCain campaign honchos Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt were planning to blame Sarah Palin for McCain’s loss. This was expected to be an effort to punt the blame for their own failures to the side of the ticket that was most popular with the base, attracted the largest rally crowds, and scared the living bejeepers out of the opposing party.

I don’t think the idiot was McCain. He immediately came out and said, “No bailouts.” It was the next day that he seemed subdued and flipped.

linguistic “cross-dressing”

Absolutely brilliant!!!
That is the key to this whole mess -
Trying to follow McCain’s policies was impossible - I never did figure out what his health care policy was - speak in plain talk -
tax credits - do you think any of those dumb freeloaders had a clue what that was - the only thing they understand is ‘free money’.

Uh, that 1st sentence of mine is terrible.*

Reworded: I mostly agree, but, McCain didn’t even make effective use of Obama’s breaking his word about using public financing.

*It’s late - what can I say - GOTTA snooze now...

Those are all good ideas you mentioned.

I think the way to win and win big in the congressionals next time is to develop personal relationships with voters on a grassroots level now so that in a couple of years they will feel “listened to” and vote with your party.

That means reaching out to people on a personal level when its not election time.

Lots of meet and greets. Lots of getting to know people. Taking a personal interest in their lives. Not always trying to sell them something.

McCain would have carried only Arizona and maybe 3 or 4 other states with somebody like Tom Ridge on the ticket.

He wouldn't have even carried Arizona -- a state that was in play going into the final weeks of the election.

McCain is a loser. He spent his time pissing off the conservative base and the base stayed home, go figure.

Hit the nail. How was McCain going to win with a platform that was founded on the premise that we should vote for the guy because he is a traitor to his own party. WTF???

Without Palin, I doubt McCain could have carried a single state.

the question is: could any republican win after Bush? The reason why he even had a chance was because he distanced himself from Bush so much

We were red - Florida - I live in the very red panhandle where the get out to vote operation should be strong - but there was none.
The clue here is to revamp the worthless Republican party so that the vast majority of the donations go for promotional material. When you go door-to-door you should have bumper stickers to give out and ask if they want a yard sign and then have someone come around and put them up. There should be community stations (volunteer’s garages) where you could go to pick up stuff. A network to follow up on the volunteer’s work - the key here is to make all volunteers feel that they are accomplishing something.
Eliminate all the expensive parties paid for by campaign contributions - let them pay - and if they can’t afford it then surely there will be someone who can buy tickets for them.
I think it would be a good idea to totally investigate Obama and get the truth out using only articles from the liberal press or undisputable resources (avoid info coming from the right). (I did this several years ago with my stuff on Clinton - published here as the ‘Presidential Treason’ series.)
However, I think that once the freeloaders discover that Obama only used them as stepping stones, there will be riots. We could probably even get them over to our side.LOL

the indie replied “So? My taxes would probably go up under McCain.”

think mccain would’ve fought to keep the bush tax cuts from automatically expiring when he voted against them in the first place? He probably would have been another “read my lips” republican.
Put cap and trade and loads of other regulations on top of that and conservatives will be equated with “bad economy.”

I have proof of such incompetence since 1980 when I took a poll on my own and drove all the republicans to the polls in my little old toyota station wagon. After my experience with the republican party in the early eighties, together with their illegal and incompetent actions, I kind of gave up and just voted. Now I’m ticked off and ready to go again. Wish I still had that computer program I wrote (post #426), but am more than willing to get into it again (for free if I know that everyone else is volunteering their time) - just finished a cool website of my own so I know how it’s done. Heck, I even know how to turn off the AVC on the credit card processing so we can process illegal contributions LOL

if in fact Alaska is the only state that makes it through the next few years, yes that would be a big vindication for Sarah.

But I think we need someone who can connect to urban people, especially hispanics and blacks, and not just white people from very small towns. Someone you don’t have to worry about when he/she gives an interview with Katie Couric.

You do realize that the Couric interview was edited down to soundbites... don’t you?

They had freedom to edit the interview, so basically carte blanche to make the Governor look like an idiot.
Compare the interview of Governor Palin with the interview of Joe Biden telling us about how FDR was Prez in 1929 when the stock market crashed and went on the TELEVISON to calm everyone.

FDR was not Prez in 1929 and TV was not available to the mass market in the US at the time...
Katie didn’t bat an eye at these remarks and they didn’t have any traction - because.. aww. ya know Joe just misspoke.
OBIE talking about the 57 states....
aww.. Obie just misspoke...

Why hit on the woman?... because the guys can’t help it...and the hateful beotches too...only this hit is abuse.
