GOP eyes rising stars

The Republican Party's doors are open to a new generation of leaders as it regroups and re-evaluates its message in the wake of Tuesday night's crushing defeat at the polls.

But what that generation should espouse remains up for negotiation.

"There's always a period of introspection after a loss, as there should be. We need to go back to square one and review our message, the values we communicate and the messengers we choose to communicate them," Republican pollster Whit Ayres said.

"I think we have to have a bunch of smart people reflecting on these results," he said.

While the Republican Party may need to return to the ideas of Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan to center itself, the party's next generation of leaders doesn't look like its father's GOP.

Tomorrow's party leaders defy stereotypes and may seem counterintuitive, said Republican strategist Margaret Hoover. "We're not the old wrinkly guy party anymore.

"We definitely need some fresh leadership and some fresh faces," Hoover said. "Even on taxes, Barack Obama's tax message got more traction with Americans, so clearly we're not doing something right. The wilderness isn't a bad place to be."

Strategists say the party should look to its governors to guide its future, especially Sarah Palin.

"The majority of the most popular governors in the country are Republicans, even in this toxic atmosphere nationally for Republicans," said Ayres.

Palin has a great shot, but she needs to reintroduce herself to America, if that is possible.

She was a huge hit on the trail, and she is a good conservative.

When did Wynn say that? That woud be interesting, though I am not all that excited about billionaires buying the office.

I don’t base my thought on any pundit or talking head spew. I like to check out the person’s record and listen to his/her plan. Margaret Hoover? I haven’t even seen her during this campaign season more than once. What channel are you watching? sounds like MSNBC.

Meant to post that about Steve Wynn in a separate thread on the 2010 senate races.

I’d expect Palin to be almost a non-entity by then. She isn’t an overwhelming speaker, and she will be hidden from public view by the media.

Don't worry - when the rats pass the fairness doctrine, the Matrix Media will have to give a fair shake to conservatives.....right?

Things shouldn’t be so confusing for conservatives. We know what we stand for, because what we stand for isn’t supposed to change.

I may be wrong, but I could have sworn I heard him say he was a “born again” Christian. I know he has spoken and given testimony in front of Baptist and Pentecostal Churches, but does he still go to mass?

3 words...."Sarah Palin". (ooops, a biden spelling moment)

I love Sarah!!! I would love to see her write a book esponding on her beliefs (she wouldn't need a terrorist ghost writer) and follow-up with national speeches such as the upcoming CPAC.

Sarah has defeated bad seeds in the republican party in Alaska - she just needs to do same nationally to rid us of the RINO poison.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the Conservative party in the UK has a high chance of winning their next elections, Mexico’s president Felipe Calderon is by our standards fairly conservative, and while Sarkozy in France isn’t our kind of conservative, he’s a far cry from the socialists that they used to have—and meanwhile back in the land of the free we just elected a neo-Marxist?

You just don’t seem to be really nuanced on the issue of Republican candidates. Read my lips:

THE REPUBLICANS HAVE LEARNED NOTHING AND WILL PUT OUT MORE RINOS FOR US TO CHOOSE FROM 2012!

Has MSNBCrap said anything like that? That would be a big fat NO.
