Whether we like it or not, when most people hear the word "conservative," they are going to think of people like Bush

Nope. Whether YOU like it or not, when most people hear the word "conservative," they think of Televangelists telling them how to vote about gay marriage; people who come unhinged on the matter of illegal immigration; Newt Gingrich getting caught with his pants down; and a whole host of smug politicians who couldn't be bothered to actually explain their principles.

Politics is very much a game of perceptions, and conservatives are often seen as narrow, unpleasant, and unreasonable. You can't blame that on Mr. Bush.

Don't cast the blame any farther than you can reach, FRiend -- the blame is yours. (And mine....)

bush made some mistakes.. but he also did a lot of good..

spending was out of control.. but that was also the fault of house and senate repubs..

it seemed though that no one wanted to stick up for bush at the end.. and that led to climate of change.. also.. the ill-informed electorate actually wanted more gov’t intervention according to exit polls..

If you don't think this was a referendum of Bush...you are very naive. Hannity just read a poll that outlined why people didn't vote for Republicans. Only 9% said it was because they were too conservative. almost 60% said it was because they (GOP) had went to DC and lost their way and didn't hold to their principles.

The fish rots from the head down. The lack of direction...leadership...and FIGHT that had been seen in our party can be laid 1) Not solely...but largely at the feet of Bush and 2) Those who have advocated a "Big Tent" philosophy...thus compromising our principles. Bush did that as well.

We don't win by moving towards the middle. We win when we loudly and convincingly advocate conservative principles...thus moving people from the middle to the right.
