And McCain should have stuck up for Bush on each of those. Bush's tax cuts were not for the rich, but were across the board and completely eliminated federal income taxes for tens of millions of our lowest income earners. But NO ONE every heard about that from the McCain camp.
well it messed mccain up. If you voted against the tax cut then how can you defend them just before the election?
McCain voted against those tax cuts. Because he has an admitted inept undertanding of economics, he does not know tax rates are dynamic; not linear. He voted against them because there were no commensurate spending cuts. While that is a noble idea, the two are mutually exclusive in the immediate. So, he could not credibly tout those tax cuts because he did not support them. Similarly, his total inability to understand economics made it impossible for him to make the inexorable and historical link between tax cuts and increased federal revenues. The simple reality is he was the wrong candidate. Both he and Hilary should have handily beat Obama but they never accounted for American Idol and the evolving need of Americans for an indulgent parent.
