CNSNews.com) – Facing the most liberal president and Congress in a generation, conservative stalwarts do not blame the GOP’s disastrous election performance solely on Republican nominee John McCain or on President George W. Bush. The ultimate culprit, some say, has been big government Republicanism.
Long-time conservative activist Richard Viguerie thinks the Republican Party’s problem this year is not unlike its problem in previous election cycles.
“Moderate and liberal have not done very well,” Viguerie, the chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, told CNSNews.com. “Both Bushes had problems, and Bush the son nearly destroyed the Republican Party. People are looking for a clear conservative choice.”
Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, said this is not the first time Republicans have had a bad election cycle.
“We will get the same advice from the establishment press, which will advise the party to move left,” he said. But when that was tried, it did not work, Norquist told CNSNews.com.
He said Republicans win by running on President Ronald Reagan’s ideas and lose when they move left. He cited President George H. W. Bush’s failed reelection campaign in 1992 after running successfully as a Reagan tax-cutter in 1988, as well as Bob Dole in 1996 who had previously opposed the Reagan tax cuts, and now McCain, who has supported legislation on campaign finance reform and global warming.

A RINO...IMO...is someone who doesn't understand REAGANOMICS. It is someone who is compromising on the pro-life issue. It is someone who is not for securing our borders...who is pro-amnesty...socially liberal...fiscally liberal. A RINO is someone who will appoint a judge that is not a strict constuctionalist. A RINO is someone who thinks its the Fed Governments job to fix the market. A RINO wants to reach across the isle to the enemy (and a RINO doesn't understand the dems ARE the enemy)
In my opinion...if you meet ANY of these qualities...you are a RINO. I am sure I have left some out...but to me...that is the fundamentals of conservatism.
Demonizing immigrants was a bad move.
There is a way you can welcome Hispanics into the party and at the same time demonize their Nana as a law-breaker.
It was handled very, very poorly.
Our black outreach in 2004 consisted of RNC Chair traveling with Don King, a known murderer who exploited Mike Tyson. On what planet is he representative of black Americans? Only in the minds of those who don’t know any minorities. Sure, he appealed to a segment of black America, but not the middle-class blacks who would be attracted to our party on principles. Mehlman should have been beaten bloody for that move. I still shudder from embarrassment thinking about that.
I haven't a clue as to whether she will be the best candidate. If she takes Stevens Senate seat and gets some Washington experience then, yes. She's fantastic but the media and McCain have been kicking her around all day. Just like Dan Quale.
If she comes from Alaska in 2012 then I'll have to look at the field and see who's running. If she's the best candidate, then I'll vote for her. If not, I'm voting for the REAL CONSERVATIVE this time. I've had it with these moderate losers! I worked for Bob Dole and John McCain. Nobody over 55 next time. The public just won't have it and I'm tired of losing!
I really like her, but I'm a poor judge of candidates. I vote for the Republican and they always lose!

The republicans and conservatives need to grow a set of balls and not let the leftist communists who run the democratic party run roughshod all over the country, its constitution and its citizens.
Returning to the basic traditional conservative principles of limited government, low taxes, cuttting wasteful and profligate government spending, reining in corruption no matter who is involved or what party, eliminating waste fraud and abuse in government, no government bailouts for anyone, allowing free market capitalism to return but with judicious oversight to keep it on the straight and narrow, cutting wasteful government bureaucracies etc. and having leaders willing to speak out and follow all those principles a la Ronald Reagan et al. will do more to reinvigorate the republican party than anything else. And this needs to be started immediately.
