I can’t imagine Franken will concede...

No one cares if he "consedes", he LOST.

At this point it looks like the bleeding stops at 54 Dims plus Sanders & Lieberman, for a total of 56. The pubbies hold 44 seats. I assume the uncalled Senate races in AK, GA, and OR will be held by Rs.

Senate Dim leaders will have to decide what they want to do with Lieberman. If they punish him for campaigning for McCain by taking away committee assignments, he might go caucus with the Rs, leaving the Dims with 55.

On certain key issues, they will also have 5 to 7 liberal Republican votes, so on those issues they’ll be able to invoke cloture and allow bills concerning those issues to be passed. I think that will include USSC justices, because of the abortion issue.

I can’t bring myself to celebrate a Norm Coleman victory...a retained notch for the “Republican Mainstreet Partnership”, which along with neoconservatism, ought to go down in flaming heaps.

He changed nothing but his party ID in 1996 (for purely strategic - not ideological - reasons), and mark my words, his term will be defined by giving bipartisan legitimacy to core parts of the Obama wish-list. Conservative/GOP goodwill to prop him up will not go unpunished.

Loose-cannon Franken would have made a fitting mascot for a Democrat-controlled Senate.

And yeah, I kept my trap shut on this one until AFTER the election. But that was (the?) one race I would have voted third party.

“I piped up and opined that if Minnesota voted in Franken that they should be the first state that B.O. cedes to Russia when the Bear comes calling.”

Why not California? You’re closer to Russia. If who we vote into office is reason enough to cede a state to Russia, then based on Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Barbie Boxer and Feinstein alone, you guys should have been on the top of the list.

And that’s the lesson of third-party candidates. You vote for Ross Perot, you elect Bill Clinton.

“MN makes me sick. I can’t believe 1,210,028 Minnesotans voted for such a slimy, low-life scum as Al Franken. They should be ashamed of themselves. It is a slap in the face to America. It is a sad day for America. Very sad indeed...”

Unfortunately, I think we’d all better get used to it. This is the new America; while the old America slept, this creepy, eerie, clammy, vile and viscious one took over.

We will be HARD pressed to take it back as they consolidate and grow their constituency in the next four years.

Too soon to call this race with a 770 vote margin. But if Coleman does pull it out, the new FReeper group FreepShop.com deserve a lot of credit. they came up with a great last minute ad which ran in Minneapolis showing Franken joking about Al Queda.

I find it TOTALLY DISGUSTING that this was a narrow win. What is wrong with people?

Indeed. This election has shaken my faith in America.

I bet in real votes it wasn't as narrow as it looks.

Obama wants reelected. He will stay away from potential guilt by association going forward and he will move to the center. Look for Hagel and Luger to be considered for senior posts. Franken will go back to "entertainment".

News that hasn’t gotten out yet is that Mark Kirk kept his house seat in Illinois. The republicans biggest hope to take Obama’s seat in 2010.

Don't make me laugh. Hussein worry about guilt by association? I don't think so. If the pals he is associated with hasn't hurt him so far, why do you think it would in the future?

Franken and the Dems need to manufacture about 600 votes in the next few days. .. shouldn’t be too hard. Depends who the Secretary of State in Minnesota is.

Good news for now yes, but with the margins being as close as they are it’s a sign of things to come.

Obama used those people to get ahead in Chicago politics and tossed them overboard when they were no longer needed. He will reinvent himself as President and do a Clinton; he will poll and focus group and do whatever best supports his re-election at the time. Fox is reporting that Rahm Emanuel will be his Chief of Staff. Emanuel was Clinton's ramrod on passing NAFTA. NAFTA will be their first flip-flop.
