We did good. Now liberalism is going to be tested, without a dot/com revolution. Let’s see how far they can fall.
Not really. We can all take solace in the fact that Obama is unlikely to really shift the balance of the SCOTUS. Yes, he will probably get one or two appointments, but you have to look at whose seats he will be filling: Roberts, Alito, and Thomas are all quite young and healthy (Thomas is the oldest at a mere 60). Scalia is 72, but every indication is that he is very very fit and unlikely to die or retire any time soon.
Obama's most likely Supreme Court nominations will be replacing Stevens (who is 88) or Ginsburg (who is said to be in very poor health). While it would be great if we could replace them with conservatives, we need to keep in mind that at least we will only be swapping one liberal for another (the overall makeup will remain the same). In the end it is a wash.
The only thing we really have to worry about is if Kennedy dies and gets replaced with a full-blown lib.
You miss my point. The democrats don’t have to depend on anyone retiring. They can create new seats on the bench and fill them with their own justices. With two new seats the current balance of 4 liberals, 4 conservatives and 1 moderate would be shifted to 6 liberals, 4 conservatives and 1 moderate. Game over.
We HAVE to win over the majority of hispanics to the GOP conservative side in the future.How? While we agree with them on social issues, how do we get them to reject entitlements?
