Our problems are not primarily tactical but strategic. An postelection analysis which turns on tactical what-ifs serve only to compound our dilemma.
Yes, we must soldier on and go down fighting but down we will certainly go. We have to say this on the record before this election so that we have the credibility to be heard during the finger pointing in the aftermath. Some of us have been pointing to the demographic challenge for more than two years. We have warned that the fiscal debauchery of the party would kill it. I for one have saved my posts to prove it. Buchanan is right as he usually is in these matters. The fundamental challenges which faced us have been ignored for two years at the least. If they are not addressed now in the wake of this calamity when we have nowhere to go but up, and nothing to lose, we will be in the wilderness for at least a generation. Conservatism might not ever emerge as something recognizable to my generation. The Republic will have been exposed to a potential demagogue with no governmental, media, or non-governmental institutional check or balance to restrain him. Will there be enough of conservatism to bring it back?
We were not blindsided, all of this was foreseeable and predictable. In fact, it was predicted right here on free Republic.
That's a good one!
