I have a dark secret to tell before the election so that it's on the record. It's something that is difficult to say to certain friends, peers and family.
I still like George W. Bush. A lot.
For starters, I am convinced he is a fundamentally decent man.
President Bush is far smarter, more articulate and less ideological than his plentiful detractors scream, and, ultimately, he will be judged by history - not by vengeful Democrats, hate-filled Hollywood, corrupt foreign governments, an imploding mainstream media or fleeting approval ratings.
George W. Bush is history's president, a man for whom the long-term success or failure of democracy in Iraq will determine his place in history.
The fact that the United States has not been attacked since Sept. 11, 2001, far exceeds the most wishful expert predictions of the time.
By most accounts, al Qaeda is reeling. Yet reflexive enemies of the president - including Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee - shamefully mock him for not having caught Osama bin Laden.
While President Bush has been marshaling a multinational force to take on modernity's enemies in foreign lands, the American left has decided to go to war against not only Republicans but also moderate Democrats.
Much of Mr. Bush's approval rating is born of the ill-gotten gains pilfered from a pre-Bush inauguration strategy to send the message to Republicans that the Democrats play politics harder and better.
Mr. Obama said it best: "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun."
Right now, America appears to be leaning toward electing a man for whom popularity is a paramount concern. That means he must trust the American media and the American electorate to guide him to difficult decisions, not the other way around.

There are worst things you can do than protect Americans for 7+ years from Terrorism, and depose one of the worst human beings to ever walk to planet. He will always have my respect for those two things. I like his tax cuts too.
George W Bush will be judged by hatefilled elite historians.
The people will know in their hearts that this man kept us safe for eight years and was nearly brought down by the old media.
As usual the Republicans do all the heavy lifting and take the hard and sometimes unpopular stands. Bush kicked the muslims butts and that alone makes him a great president. History will indeed be kind to George W Bush.
The truth will out — history will be far kinder to gwb than the mass media has been.
I for one will make a contribution to his library as a way of saying thank you.
**History will indeed be kind to George W Bush.**
His current approval ratings are higher than Congress and the MSM... COMBINED!!
I do think that history will paint him as a great President, but only after a very long time.
Ditto.V’s wife.
“he is a fundamentally decent man”.
Yes I agree he is a decent man. I just think he sold us a false bill of goods.
George Bush is NOT a conservative. He has shown that many times. And I am very disappointed in him and his presidency.
Yet here we are poised to put more morons in congress that got the congressional ratings so low.
It defies common sense...
For all Bush has done right, it's going to be a speck in the eye of what future genenrations will have to endure because of his moderate politics.
'Compassionate Conservatism' is the bane of this decade.
Katrina forced GWB’s hand into getitng in the ‘big government’ compassionate conservatism business.
Despite Democrats best wishes and intentions (or hopeful invitations)..
I'm ticked at the Pubbies and MSM for letting the 'Rats have have free reign on "Its so bad now" versus "How bad would it have been under Kerry or Gore". I believe we're lucky to be in the position we are at, rather than in some socialist Gore/Kerry "quagmire".
Worse yet, Obama = Kerry + Gore + black rage + extra Marx.
And if we get screwed tomorrow, we'll have 4 years of Obama blaming Bush....
President George W Bush will be judged by History as one of America’s greatest war-time Presidents.
Speaking personally, I will miss seeing him as POTUS: his folksy humor and his daft mispronunciations. He was misunderestimated during his time in office: unfairly so. And he was wrongfully thought to be unintelligent: as if he could graduate from two top universities and learn how to fly a fighter jet by being stupid. And then get elected Governor of Texas and then POTUS not just once but twice...
Amazing service, Mr President. Many thanks from all of us.
In the very near future - we will all wear GPS attachments that will record our every act, deed and thought.
It will be called the General Polling System and will tell us how to think and when.
Of course, that will occur when we are all incapable of independent logical thought....in about 2 years IMHO.
Receiving abuse from former supporters and detractors within one’s own party on leaving office is part of the Presidential job description. I’m sure Bush expected this from the day he took office. A big part of serving one’s country or serving others in general is taking the ration of crap that goes with it. Do your kids ever thank you for reminding them to do their homework?
If GW is the man I think he is he won’t complain about how he was treated by Democrats or Republicans.
Where Bush went horribly wrong was spending. Endless spending... He tried to buy Dem's and got stabbed in the back instead - big surprise... You would have thought he would have learned a few lessons from his father “working with Democrats”... and “No new taxes”... They beat him over the head to increase taxes so they could spend more money. He finally agrees to and they then beat him over the head for breaking his promise...
AMEN!
I couldn’t agree more with you and the others who’ve posted this—he’s made difficult decisions without regard to how it looks in the polls, and made the world a better place for it.
History will look favorably on him.
I still like George W. Bush. A lot. For starters, I am convinced he is a fundamentally decent man.
I am still saying this to the Bush haters. In my lifetime I have never seen such an decent President get such a bad rap, most of which was fomented by the MSM (right arm of the democrat party). Most people are intellectually lazy and find it easier to believe what they hear rather than dig in and seek the truth. IMHO God will judge Mr. Bush favorably.
