Well a majority of the UMW rank & file is not going to vote Obama period!
However due to history of industry-worker relations they view the "UNION" as necessary because the "company" is always wrong! Also there is the "Union" and the "UMW" they are not always the same thing. Even though the movie Matewan has a socialist message, it tells the story and the attitudes of people of that time period pretty well. I would argue that in those days maybe unions had a important role, but that is hardly the case now.
