GOP presidential candidate John McCain is expected to get a pre-Election Day message out in Tennessee and Virginia by campaigning at Tri-Cities Regional Airport on Monday.

McCain’s appearance at Tri-City Aviation is scheduled to happen about 11 a.m., 1st Congressional District GOP nominee Phil Roe said.

The McCain campaign hadn’t announced the event or its time Friday.

The last time a GOP presidential nominee campaigned in the Tri-Cities was in October 2000 when George W. Bush did a stump speech at Tri-City Aviation about a month before defeating Democratic Vice President Al Gore.

McCain’s timing caught Tennessee GOP leaders, including Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey of Blountville, off guard.

Unannounced until this weekend. This is more for southern VA than TN IMHO.

John McCain then heads to Knoxville, Chattanooga, Jackson & Memphis stumping for the Republican ticket in TN...

I have to agree. At worst, McCain will get 55% of the vote here in TN, Lamar Alexander essentially is running unopposed, and Marsha Blackburn will win in a cakewalk. Races in the other TN districts he will visit are not even competitive (as far as I know).

We need a huge GOTV effort in SW VA, so I hope that’s the real purpose of his trip.

Check the date. My information is that he will be there on Monday 11/3, not Sunday 11/2. We are giving out tickets. The doors will open at 9:45am. Plan to arrive at least an hour before then to assure a spot.

He should be speaking at about 11:00.

I was there and it was packed!! I’ve been to the one at the airport for Dole and Bush the first time and there was a lot more people this time. Needed to go back to work and had to get the mayor to help me get out of there in time. I mean people were like sardines in that place. I’ll post more info later. Got to cook supper.
