I wonder why he chose her to go back to?

Well I disagree with the premise in the article which is that he intended to rape the woman again. He may have intended to rape her again but I believe his main purpose was to kill the only eye witness to his crime.

The article states that he was a registered sex offender so he has prior convictions and knows what awaits him in prison.

It’s quite likely he threatened her with death if she reported his crime to the police. He probably intended to fulfill his threat.

I suspect he did no want to go back to prison and wanted to do what he could to minimize his chances of returning to the grey bar hotel.

On the bright side for him his victim made sure he didn’t.

Yep, smells like eliminating the witness to me, too.

Guess things didn't work out like he intended. He's gone to the court from which there is no appeal.
