From NBC's Domenico Montanaro and Mark Murray Despite public polling to the contrary, the McCain campaign claims to be "dead even" in Iowa.
"He has similar polling," Campaign Manager Rick Davis said of Obama during a conference call with reporters. "He's headed back there."
Obama held an event today in Des Moines and will take his daughters trick-or-treating in the Hawkeye State tonight. Iowa borders Obama's home state of Illinois, and Obama skipped an event in the state when he left the trail to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii.
A Mason-Dixon poll, conducted Oct. 22-23, showed Obama up 51%-40% in Iowa. A Marist College poll, conducted in the same period, showed Obama up 52%-42%. Research 2000, conducted Oct. 19-22, showed Obama up 54%-39%. There have been no reliable polls in the past week.
Davis and political director Mike Duhaime (formerly Giuliani's campaign manager) urged reporters to not underestimate their ground game. They cited the millions of dollars the Republican National Committee has poured in. Davis called it "historic" and said it has "exceeded any campaign ever." Davis said the RNC-McCain campaign have spent about $325 million. Duhaime said the RNC has 1.1 million volunteers.

If McCain is ahead in Iowa, he’s ahead in New Hampshire too. Remember in NH they pick presidents, not corn! Mac should just campaign in PA nad VA and call it a day, All these red states will stay red.
We keep hearing amazing news like this, and we also hear that “it’s over, Obama’s going to win”. How great will it be if the polls are prove to be completely off, and McCain not just wins, but wins in a landslide? What will David Gergen say? How will the pundits explain it?
Rove's electoral map shows PA and VA solid blue.
Up is down, down is up.
Iowa was the stupid state that started all this Obama crap in the first place. They should show some real values and vote for McCain.
Sarah’s been taking him down in middle America.
I wonder about Fox a lot! Shepard Smith, whom I detest, just kind of threw in to an interview, that Obama not being born in Hawaii is bull.
Fox had him with an 11 point lead? Yesterday they had it at three. Hard to believe his speeches are still keeping him alive.
Biden got 400 fools to show up indoors at a college gym in Williamsport, PA yesterday.
Two hours later, in an outdoor stadium in the same town, w/40° temps and wind, we saw Sarah pack in over 10,000.

It was just a day or two ago they he was trying to turn red states blue. LOL
McCain/Palin in a Landslide. That is my prediction and I stand by it.
There is a rumor swirling around here in Iowa that Obama favors a 500% tax on ammunition sales. That may have some impact on the numbers, as even the dems in this state love to hunt, and MANY here hunt primarily for meat, not for trophies. Talk about a tax that hurts poor people!

I pray hard you are right, but I can’t tell you how many Obama yard and bumper signs I see her in West Texas.... BUSH COUNTRY!
“If 0bama was doing as well as the media would have you believe, hed be campaigning in TX right now”.
...absolutely! He’s running around to states that were supposedly all buttoned up! Ohio, Florida, PA.
Fox 11 points? Really?
Their new poll Thursday 10/30 had it +3 for Obama. They said that was down from +9 for Obama the previous week.
So I find it hard to believe the Fox poll went from +3 to +11 in one day. Thursday’s poll was their standard weekly poll, not a daily tracker.
Sounds like the RNC and McCain had more money then we expected. My guess is there has also been a 527 PAC surge by Repubs. Geez my checkbook and credit card are close to exhaustion.
I think Iowa will go McCain. I think Obama has given up on Florida. Rendell is saying PA is tied. Rendell is a Clinton man and wants Obama to lose.
Donate, vote, volunteer and GOTV.
Thank you!

I work for a large employer in Des Moines, Iowa and we had an internal voting poll today. Votes: John McCain: 2,424 Barak Obama: 2,414 Other: 98 Undecided: 320 Not going to vote or not eligible to vote: 127
I have always thought the polls in Iowa were wrong.
