Obama and the Runaway Train The race, the case, a hope for grace.(Peggy Noonan's Dribble)
New York Times ^ | 10/31/08 | Peggy Noonan

The case for Barack Obama, in broad strokes:

He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief. He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. Obama and the Runaway Train The race, the case, a hope for grace.

He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make. We witnessed from him this year something unique in American politics: He took down a political machine without raising his voice.

I clipped the same skewwy line...Something new is happening in America. It is the imminent arrival of a new liberal moment. History happens, it makes its turns, you hold on for dear life. Life moves.

Peggy Noonan.

You were warned not to go to sleep near those giant seed pods...

Actually, everyone here saw this coming. Peggy Noonan has this post menopausal crush on Marxist Obama, and she's well beyond the cold water splash thing.

Noonan has always had a problem with emotions ruling her written thought processes, and it hasn't gotten any better.

Noonan is not capable of stating a thesis, and supporting it with facts. Her metaphor drifts in and out of some weird ether; and, there are usually a few lines in anything she writes that will make sense only to Peggy Noonan (and then, perhaps only if she's sniffing glue.)

.

She has seen the backlash, want to bet she’s read EVERY thread about her on Free Republic?? I guarantee you she has, she’s VERY self-absorbed.

This is her revenge, I bet some of my posts pushed her over the edge. I have a way of cutting very deep when push comes to shove. lol.

Hi Peggy, we KNOW you’re reading this!

Well it will be interesting to see what the Mainstream Media does with Bobby Jindal. I don’t know if they can wrap their heads around him.

You make the same point, somewhat more effectively, than I was trying to make a few posts earlier. She is in love with words, and the Obama story gives her an opportunity to wax poetic without concern for facts. In retrospect, her admirationfor Reagan was probably based on his skill as a speaker rather than on his politics. In all seriousnes, I think she could have written speeches for Hitler.

Insane with envy (of Palin), lack of any political principles, easily swayed by glibness/style, and a need to be liked by the Beltway elites....

That's Peggy. And that's always been Peggy.

Not to mention beloved Pope John Paul II.

And to think she made money on that book. Shameful Peggy.

Since I’m a Palin political vulgarian I could give a rat’s a*s less about what Peggy Noonan thinks about anything.

I just don’t get people like Peggy Noonan.

How can one be so smart and so deceived by Obama at the same time?

Obama supporters cult like worship is very scary for the future of our country.

It's the Kevin Phillips syndrome. When conservative pundits lose their fizz, and see their popularity wane as more vibrant writers overtake them, they often track hard to the left. This is an ideal way to revive their career. Kevin Phillips was one of the top conservative pundits from the late sixties to the early eighties. But he became dull and other rightist pundits left him in the dust. He revived his career by attacking the “religious right” and endorsing abortion.

Peggy is suffering the same fate. Her patrons have passed on or retired. She's never adapted to the new internet forums. She was stuck in the past and newer, more vibrant conservative pundits passed her by. Then came Sarah Palin, an attractive woman popular with the right, and it blew Peggy's mind. Jealously raged through her, and in no time she was drooling like a rock groupie over the “next big thing”, Barack Obama.

So long, Peggy. We all have to age and turn the reigns over to younger folks at some time. Instead of finishing your career as a mentor to younger conservative writers, you've chosen to stab your friends in the back, undermine your party's candidate, and support a truly wicked messianic political movement of the far left. And for no other reason than jealousy and a desire to stay “relevant”.

Don't come crawling back to us if Obama is elected and tragedy befalls our great land. Ask Daily Kos for a job. It's about your speed these days.

Contrary to an earlier poster, I doubt very much Noonan visits this forum or cares about what we say. We are nobodies. And since she is clearly an idiot, or in the early stages of AZ, we shouldn’t care too much about what she says, either.

A far cry from her waxing eloquence in her article the day after George Bush's finest moment of clarity as he stood shoulder to shoulder with firefighters on top of remnants of the WTC promising a stunned nation that those that brought down those buildings would hear from all of us soon.

Her columns about George Bush has mirrored his descent in the minds of the public to depths never before reached by a President.

He has upheld his promise and constitutional mandate to protect the United States of America, since that fateful day despite incessant personal and political attacks the likes of which no president during wartime has ever endured.

There was no loyal opposition, there was no steadfast support of the people he was protecting and even neo-conservative columnists like Peggy Noonan abandoned him long ago.

I for one will not abandon George Bush even when the overwhelming majority of the nation has.

Noonan is a professional wordsmith and is overly impressed by style rather than substance.

Exactly.

She exactly thinks what she writes makes sense!

I think I read that she wouldn’t have been as offended with Kay Bailey. One of those open mike moments.

She also has her panties in a wad because, in her mind, President Bush dissed her in some way. Since I don’t “get” Washington politics, I’m not sure what her gripe is.

The only thing I can think of is, she and KB are insiders. GWB Sarah are not, so they must be shunned.
