Either Midway, or one of the other Pacific battles, there is a site called something like “animated history”, that animates all the battles step by step with notations. I recall Admiral McCain being involved in one of them.

Surigao Strait, part of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, is correct. And yes, John McCain’s grandfather commanded TF38.1, a potent carrier task group, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. However, his force did not take an active part as Halsey detached it for replenishment a day or two before the main engagement.
