WASHINGTON—A week from today, Americans will pick a new president, but a surprising beneficiary may be off the ballot: Mitt Romney.
With polls in key states forecasting a comfortable victory by Sen. Barack Obama and fellow Democrats, Republicans may find themselves booted out of the White House, shoved further into the minority in Congress and marginalized in the powerhouse of Washington.
If Sen. John McCain loses next Tuesday, Romney could be well positioned to rise as a leader of the Republican Party to guide conservatives through a few years in the political wilderness and a favorite for the GOP presidential nomination come 2012.

Look at this thing on its merits. Romney won’t win, he can’t win. We’ve told “people like you” all along. Put your fingers in your ears and refuse to listen all you want, I really don’t care.
People will not vote for Romney. Most of us believe he is a flip-flopping RINO. Many of us have trouble with his delusional thinking.

Let’s wait until the election is over, see where things stand, and then talk about things. Hopefully, we have McCain and Palin in the White House and only a narrow Dem lead in Congress.
If the worst case happens, though, we’ll have to do some serious soul-searching and figure out what the future of this party is.
But for now, for this coming week, focus on one thing: getting good Republicans in office (I use the word “good” because I don’t include bribery-ridden criminals like Ted Stevens in this tent).

Indeed, it appears so. "You people" refers to those Mitt haters that were unable to put their bigotry aside in order to unite to stop a much less conservative candidate from taking the nomination.
