OH well...goodbye to the old corrupt dude.
Alaska should be lucky to have Palin, because she exposed some of the good old boy corruption in that state.

One of the poster children for the lost GOP congressional majority. Good riddance. People like him have to go for the Republicans to have any chance at a comeback.

It’s time to rename the Anchorage airport. This is a lesson that structures should only be named after deceased people.

Good riddance...but does that mean if people vote him back in Sarah can appoint his replacement?

Why wasn’t his case declared a mistrial?

“The conviction came after a tumultuous week in the jury room. First there were complaints about an unruly juror, then another had to be replaced when she left Washington following the death of her father. Finally, jurors on Monday discovered a discrepancy in the indictment that had been overlooked by prosecutors. Jury deliberations in this historic trial have at times been as contentious as some of the proceedings.”

I’m not saying the guy is innocent, but if I were on trial and there were ‘discrepancies overlooked by the prosecution’, I would have had my lawyer move for a mistrial.

I have no use for Stevens but I sure do have a question:

how is it that THIS particular trial was scheduled to conclude about 1 week before a national election, while all kinds of Demagogue scum constantly have investigations and/or prosecutions postponed b/c of course “we wouldn’t want to affect the elections in any way”??????

Why isn’t Wm. Jefferson on trial right now? Why aren’t all sorts of Democraps on trial right now? Seems just a bit one-sided in how the DOJ handles these things, eh?

Republicans in Alaska are just like Democrats in New Orleans who nominate a man under indictment for Congress.

The newspaper declaring Obama the winner may end up correct with this.

It just depends upon how the McCain camp reacts.

It could turn into a nothing story like the Palin report. Or, it could dominate the news for the next week.

McCain has GOT to respond aggressively with an anti-corruption plan, a reinforcement of his economic plan, and also point out the redistribution of wealth comment OVER AND OVER again.

Stevens is corrupt. But this verdict will be over-turned on appeal because of prosecutorial misconduct.

I have a rhetorical question which almost all Freepers will know the answer to, other than faux posters:

How is it that from the first hint of Stevens' impropriety, thru the Grand Jury, to the indicment, to the trial, to the verdict (at least)it appears that the entire process has been expidited in record time (yes in time for the Lame Stream Media and DemoRats to gloat and issue their "corrupt Republican" mantras") but after 2 years, the DOJ has yet to move on "Cold Cash" Jefferson?
