Don't even start with this state! Try the people, and who did what, when. Blaming the state for this is like blaming murder on guns. It's the person behind the trigger that is responsible for their actions.
The timing of the trial was political. That he was found guilty, is a whole different story. They (the libs) set out a trap line to catch themselves a senate seat. Even if there is a new trial, they got what they came for, they don't care what happens to Steven's.

Ah, I see. Thanks. The replacement, if Stevens had resigned in time for an election, would fill out Stevens’ term, until the next swearing in, on Jan 3 or so, right?

Ted Stevens will not impact anything going into 4 November. Except his own reelection. ;-)

There goes election. You must be watching Chris Matthews who said this day has been BAD carma for McCain what with two major headlines hitting at once -- Stevens Guilty and possible assassination attempt againt The One. No mention of the other major headline which should be on the tongue of everyone calling themselves a reporter -- 2001 Redistribution of Wealth tape, huh Chris?

“An Alaska jury thought otherwise. “
It was a DC jury. No doubt all Democrats. Same kind of jury as convicted Scooter Libby and others.
Stevens attorneys tried to get a change of venue to Alaska but it was denied.
Republicans charged in DC are certain to get convicted. Democrats are certain to get aquitted if they ever come to trial.

Yes.
Appointments are no against Alaskan law, and because there is only 8 days til the general election (and no time for a special election), Alaska will be represented in the Senate by a convicted felon until the next Congress is sworn in.
Nice job, Ted.

Unknot your panties and calm down.
If all of us get off our asses and VOTE, we'll send this marxist pØs to the national trashcan where he and his terrorist/racist/thieving ilk belong.

My brother, who is in NYC finance, told me that it was sheer luck for the RATS that the financial meltdown occurred in early October and not 7 weeks later - after the elections. In politics, NOTHING happens by chance...

Because the "Troopergate" crap was run like in a Banana Republic. What kind of Republican morons let that happen? I presume from your sign-up date that you've been watching politics for some amount of time, montag813.
There ARE Democrats in Alaska, too - and now we clearly see that the media has its thumb on the scale in favor of the Democrats.
The local media played up the "Troopergate" saga for what it was worth to the Democrat Party. They could have easily made the "controversy" go away in an instant by dubbing it "Tasergate". Is that what happened?
At the national level, the national media is only going to tell you (and everyone else) what they want you to think. Sounds like they were successful in your case...

This is what you get when Republicans nominate a man for US Senate that has been Indicted! So, what do you get when Democrats nominate a man for US House that has been Indicted? **snicker**

“Why couldnt these cases wait until after the election?”
Didn’t he ask for a speedy trial?
To: an amused spectator
That would be William Jefferson. Perhaps he and Ted can be bunk mates in the Federal pen.

Aaaaah, the Antichrist Conclusion...that staggering bit of brainwork of those who have decided that someone who is sure she'll see the Rapture occuring during her lifetime would somehow make a great President.
It boggles the mind of us lesser Biblical scholars.
