DALLAS (Reuters) - If Republican John McCain loses the November 4 election as most polls predict, his party may be in for a rough period of soul searching.
Analysts and some party activists say losing the White House will highlight the pitfalls of relying too heavily on a narrow foundation of conservative Christians whose support has nonetheless become crucial to Republican electoral success.
But some social conservatives say a victory for Democrat Barack Obama, whom they regard as an "ultra-liberal," will energize them for the 2010 congressional "mid-term" races and the 2012 White House battle.

If McCainiacs (Romneybots, Hucaboobs, and CountryClubbers, etc) try to blame Palin for the loss (assuming there is one) they don't have a firm grip on reality. The only reason the race is this close is Gov. Sarah Palin.
That doesn't mean I'm not going to look for conservatives to vote for in the future.
So, stuff it!
I thought we all agreed to never post a reuters’ story on this site?
JoMa
Which describes whom exactly?
That's the key question but it's best addressed after the election. Then I think you'll hear lots of ideas.
Everyone except me.
There will be plenty of blame to go around, and plenty of time to pass it out. You socons need to own up to your share.
Which is, as I see it: You are not a majority. Not even close. The maximum national socon vote is no more than 30%, probably closer to 15-20%. This is reflected in statewide races, for which the US Senate seats are a useful marker. There are essentially no socons in the US Senate.
You ARE essential to any non-Democrat victory. No Republican can be elected without you.
However, this does not mean that you can get everything you want. You have some issues which are popular, or can be made popular. You have other issues which can be used to rally 70% of the people against you.
Sometime in the last six years, you have decided to emphasize the issues which most of the people oppose. I realize, from many discussions here and elsewhere, that you regard this as taking a moral stand which transcends politics. Some socons take the view that, as long as they are right, they should stand for and advocate for unpopular causes. Under some circumstances, I agree with this.
But it's going too far to set a litmus test for a Republican Presidential or Senatorial candidate that they endorse your least popular ideas. Yes, you can destroy any candidate who won't do this. But the fact that you have the power to do so does not make it wise to exercise that power.
As I said, we will have four long years to go over this debacle.
But no member of the 1994 coalition is without fault, and we all need to start by owning up to our own failings.
I agree completely, although I don’t think it should be in an entirely conservative context. I think our goal should be freedom, prosperity (opportunity), and security (this includes from criminals and interlopers as well as foreign enemies). Our success in achieving these goals will depend on the character of our citizens, if we have become immoral and lazy we can not succeed.
Nice to see you hold yourself in such high esteem.
At least that will be sweet! I say the party needs to get more conservative, certainly not less.
I don’t believe the people of this country do know the truth. Smooth talkers can make their point stick in a persons mind. BHO is influental in his speech. This country has been sucked into to blaming the Bush Admin for everything that is wrong in the world. We are becoming a hateful nation and it will increase if BHO becomes POTUS.
The entire Democratic Left need to be exposed Now.
If McCain loses, you won’t see another free election until after our next civil war.
McCain WINS what next for conservatives...
Buckley and Goldwater couldn't get elected.
Reagan was elected with a broad coalition which included RINOs and moderate centrists.
Without those RINOs and centrists, you haven't got a prayer of winning a national election - not ever.
I believe he’s doom and gloom because he is as isolated as are most who live in media centers. He hears nothing but Obama propaganda all day, and despite the best of intentions he has allowed this drivel to effect him.
I suppose “Barack Hussein” will tap the Franklin Raines talent at cooking the books in order to make the books indicate whatever he wants to them to show. As in, “pay no attention to the markets, just believe us” - “pay no attention to your lying eyes and ears, it is still (after four years) ALL BUSH’S FAULT.”
If Obama wins this election, he will so change the face of the Republic that conservatives will be a footnote. There will be no “regrouping”. One of the first things on the Obama agenda and agenda of his veto proof/filabuster proof Congress will be to reinstitute the “Fairness Doctrine”. It will be a very different climate with the continued dismanteling of the First Amendment, then the next to go will be the Second Amendment.
The people have spoken and they want Socialism. They’ve been successfully indoctinated and their perception of reality has been changed, just as Yuri Bezmenov describes.

There are about 58 videos of this former KGB agent who defected. The linked video has him describing what the KGB specalized in 85% of the time: “ideological subversion” or “active measures” - psy ops.
The link is titled “Bezmenov on demoralization in America”. In fact, everyone should download these videos to some permanent format because they won’t remain posted for long.
