The big news of the 2008 election is the GOP moderates, the RINOs have jumped ship and fled to Obama.
Anyone who could vote for Obama - the most liberal candidate to run for president in my lifetime - can not be considered a "moderate". Such people are either liberals themselves, or else they lack any ideology besides an attraction to power.

They don't have an ideology besides power. As Rush said, if you went to Democratic leaders and said "I'm a liberal but I'm pro life" or I'm a liberal but I believe in traditional marriage," they don't want to hear from you. So why should we entertain hearing people who say, "I'm a conservative but I'm pro choice" or "I'm a conservative but I'm pro gun control?" As the late William Buckley was once fond of saying anything that isn't conservative by definition sooner or later becomes liberal. The moment you compromise with the Left on your core principles, they've already won.

Attraction to power or fear of being on the outside looking in if obama wins. They can't imagine NOT being invited to the cocktail parties and dinners that mean you are part of the DC “in” crowd.
When McCain wins I wonder how they maneuver their return to the fold?
