CNN’s Campbell Brown Rips ‘Double Standard’ on Palin Clothing
Newsbusters ^ | 10-23-08 | Balen

CNN anchor Campbell Brown led her Election Center program on Wednesday with a critique of the “double standard” concerning the recent attention on the $150,000 that the Republican National Committee spent on vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin: “My issue: there is an incredible double standard here, and we're ignoring a very simple reality. Women are judged based on their appearance far, far more than men. This is a statement of fact. There has been plenty of talk and plenty written about Sarah Palin’s jackets, her hair, her looks....Compare that to the attention given to Barack Obama’s $1,500 suits or John McCain’s $520 Ferragamo shoes. There is no comparison.”

Brown spent more than 2 minutes on the matter, in which she related her own experience of how women “get scrutinized based on appearance” much more than men do: “...I speak from experience here. When I wear a bad outfit on the air, I get viewer e-mail complaining about it, a lot of e-mail, seriously. When Wolf Blitzer wears a not-so-great tie, how much e-mail do you think he gets? My point is, for women, unfortunately, appearance is part of the job. If Wolf or Anderson shows up on the air without makeup, do you think you would even notice? I show up on the air without makeup, trust me, you’ll notice.” The CNN anchor then defended the RNC’s efforts to help Palin appear visually good: “All women in the public eye deal with this issue, and it’s for this reason that I think the RNC should help Palin pay for hair, clothes, and makeup. It is part of the job.” She concluded her commentary by labeling the attention on Palin’s clothing a “peripheral issue” in the presidential campaign.

McCain has been hounded by this all day. He, and other GOP, weakly defend. Why doesn't he say to Pravda reportes-"Hey comrades,Biden guarantees an int'l crisis by June 2009. Dis you ask hin what that crisis will be. " And anticpating teh reply, he should say, "When you give me that answer, I'll talk about dresses."

Campbell Brown = Hillary Voters. Probably. But teh GOP doesn't pick up on that either. Hillary made a campaign on the resentment of women, not so the GOP.

Unfortunately, she’s right. Women are judged on a standard different than men. Not only in politics.

How many millions of dollars were spent on the OUTDOOR stage at the DNC convention in Denver, again?

According to the Denver Business Journal:

http://denver.bizjournals.com/denver/stories/2008/10/13/daily43.html?surround=lfn&brthrs=1

Ultimately, more than the original commitment was needed because of the extra cost of moving the convention on its final night from Pepsi Center to Invesco Field at Mile High.

Convention expenses paid by the committee included $14.1 million for construction costs, including the stage and lighting, at the Pepsi Center and $5.3 million at Invesco Field.

Don’t let Brown fool you. She doesn’t have a fair bone in her body. She’s trying to appear balanced and as someone who has watched her believe me she is anything but. I would hope everyone here would boycott the show

NO, they have said that all the clothing is going to be donated to charity. If they auctioned it off, they’d get lots more $$$

Double standard, yes, but its still a lot of money.

An issue that stands out like a sore thumb to many folks and one that didn’t need to be highlighted at this time.

I know the arguments, don’t waste your time.

That’s right. She is trying to keep a ‘nos-issue’ story alive by talking about it.

I would bet that...

1. Hillary's campaign paid for at least some of her stunning pant suits, and that...

2. Marxist Obama's campaign paid for his little vacation to Hawaii, much of his and his wife's (mostly black) attire, (and also a short-term lease on the American Flag pin he reluctantly wears for the next two weeks.)

.

They owe NO ONE an explanation.

Yes, I know that’s their reply. And in my view, that’s inane. You have Biden talking about an international crisis, and they don’t ask Biden about that, but they ask McCain about dresses. He shouldn’t say a word until they get an answer from Biden on what the crisis is.

I am hoping that Hillary decides that this just isn’t fair and publicly stands up for her. Come on Hillary, you know you want to, you got the same treatment during the Dem Primary

She buys them used from Kim Jong-il then has a tailor let them out. Alot.
