Palin addresses issues on television interview
Republican Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin addressed issues yesterday relating to Latin America, including Hugo Chavez and illegal immigration, in her first interview with a Spanish-language network. The interview began with Univision anchor, Jorge Ramos asking Palin to clarify recent statements she and Republican Presidential candidate John McCain have made, characterising Senator Barack Obamas tax proposals as socialist. Palin denied ever having called Obama a socialist directly.
The interview quickly turned to US nemesis, leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who has repeatedly claimed the US is planning to attack Venezuela. However, Palin said military action was a last resort. We hate war. We want peace. We want through negotiation and sanctions if need be to put pressure on a dictator like Hugo Chavez, to let them see that they will not mess around with America the way that they want to, she said.
The governor also addressed illegal immigration, saying she and McCain supported a two-pronged approach of securing the border and then working with undocumented workers already in the US.
There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants.
We - our policy - John McCain has been so clear with his policy and it makes a lot of sense too.
We secure our borders first. But then with a comprehensive approach we must deal humanely with those who are here, and we must allow the steps to be taken to protect the families of those who are here, maybe as illegal immigrants today, she said.
McCain has made an effort to reach out to Latino voters, a constituency that could prove key in swing states in Novembers election. Latino support for the Republican Party ebbed earlier this year following a bruising battle over illegal immigration. - Reuters
What are you talking about? If you want to know what was said, I think the entire exchange is still posted.
As the article states “when the borders are secure”. Does anyone see that happening in the near future? We can fight that battle when the time comes. So, why the uproar, what do you propose, Dont vote McCain/Palin? Yea, stay home and teach them a lesson. Kinda like with congress in 2006. If thats the case, then you have nobody but yourself to blame for pelosi-reid-frank-dodd-obama administration.
I read it ... and I agree that now is not the time to prick at that scab.
Okay. Do you also agree that it’s not only acceptable but preferable to say whatever it takes to win, even if that means lying about their stance on illegal immigration? And that Hunter should follow the same strategy?
Again, maybe, maybe not, but the genie isn’t going back in the bottle. It’s fantasy to think otherwise.
The mass disappearance of 12 million people (about 3% or so of the total population) isn’t going to descend from the heavens to save the Conservative movement. The circumstances are what they are. Adapt or perish.
However, you aren't going to convince person 1 if they think you are going to toss a net on them and hijack them to the middle of the Mexican desert.
Loyolas you are a great American. I am putting my country first and voting for Mccain!
I am starting to believe that a troll posted this to rile everybody up and IT WORKED!
History suggests that in a recession, jobs are at a premium and even menial task adventures become attractive.
That being the case, I think illegal immigrants will be the first to feel the pinch(market dictated,no need)....looking at the silver lining of the gathering clouds, that is.
Gov. Palin, is pretty much being painted into a corner right now by the MSM, and I am sure, currently being instructed on not intenitonally providing ammo to the opposition. Certainly a to disagree with John on this issue would be just that.
Immigration is a fluent issue, she can host other ideas and claim a change of heart, without much backlash. So to those who are crying foul....stop and look at the beautiful forest not the single diseased tree!
You’re too young to be making such comments.
I’M giving into the Left? Oh, please. The compromisers here are the ones saying “I’ll hold my nose and vote for McCain because he’s not as bad as Obama.” If that isn’t giving in, I don’t know what is. I guess it’s okay to give into the Right, but not the Left, is that correct?
McCain has done nothing while in the Senate to merit my vote. Neither has Obama. Therefore, neither one will get my vote.
I must leave now or I’ll be late for work. It’s been fun.
Same here.
FOLKS.
Our choices are an imperfect Republican candidate...
OR A MARXIST.
Please...try to keep things in perspective here huh?
How 'bout Pro-Life votes versus pro-infanticide, mama?
On 5th November, it’s either first lady Michelle Obama or Cindy McCain.
Okay, you’re on the list.
MESSAGE FROM A PUMA:
“I don’t have a clue as to what a “Freeper” is but let me tell you something - they can bitch and pound sand for all I care. PUMAS are fighting our asses off to keep Obama out of the White House and while I don’t agree with every single thing McCain/Palin stand for I stand with them on the important issues and I sure as hell don’t want an Obama presidency. So take this message back to the Freepers - shut the hell up and vote for McCain!!! You are never going to agree with everything one politician stands for or believes in. First, you bitch and piss and moan because McCain isn’t conservative enough. Then you get all excited because he adds Palin. And NOW you’re bitching because Palin apparently mentioned the word “amnesty.” Well, here’s some thoughts to consider in an Obama presidency: Wright, Ayers, Farrakhan running the halls of the White House, Michelle Obama finally being proud to be an American, socialism, dictatorship, nuclear war, and no more freedom of anything (remember Obama’s flip flop on FISA? Do you think THAT was a coincidence? Take a look at his strong-arm tactics in the primaries and now in the GE against anyone who dares speak out against him).”
I believe the correct thing for any sovereign nation to do is to deport every illegal immigrant. And that’s me being charitable.
National sovereignty and ENFORCED immigration control go hand in hand.
{Frankly, I would like to deport all the anchor babies too.}
Whether politicians believe that we should assimilate the illegals or believe we should deport them, they probably find it expedient to SAY we should assimilate them — the latino vote and all.
That’s the last straw, I’m staying home.
Susan Jones can just not vote twice.
Thanks Cedric:) I am off to work!
Many thanks, friend.
We can have our family squabbles after 11/5.
For the next 12 days I am determined to give voice to the idea that we will stand united as conservatives behind the McCain/Palin ticket.
Nothing else matters between now and then.
