Redistribute the Wealth
email unknown | 10-20-2008 | Email

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Also, employers could announce the consideration of employee raises, then withhold those raises and give the proceeds to a worthy cause, preferably one involving non-workers ... PRICELESS!

True. That’s assuming they vote.

Good point. Needy would have been a better word. I just copied and pasted the email.

However well-intentioned it was, the catastrophic and unpopular intervention in Iraq has served in some parts of the world to discredit the very idea of western democracy. The recent collapse of the banking system, and the humiliating resort to semi-socialist solutions, has done a great deal to discredit - in some people's eyes - the idea of free-market capitalism.

Democracy and capitalism are the two great pillars of the American idea.

To have rocked one of those pillars may be regarded as a misfortune.

To have damaged the reputation of both, at home and abroad, is a pretty stunning achievement for an American president and his fellow Republicans.

What the heck does that have to do with this thread, other than the vague remark to capitalism?

True. That’s assuming they vote.

Tell 'em to contact ACORN. They'll make sure they vote early and extremely often.

MM is a long-time liberal that the Robinsons allow to post for her entertainment value. Take whatever she says with a large grain of salt.

You can lay the Iraq war at the feet of President Bush but the financial crisis of the bad loans is all the democrats doing.

Lets really do a good thing and stop going to Wal-Mart and buying all that cheap made-in-China stuff.’””

I have to stand up here for Wal-Mart.
For those of you who are not yet living on a very fixed income, Wal-Mart is a God-send.

I do not do all my shopping there, as I do not care for their fresh meat products.
But- when one compares everyday items—most of which are made right here in the USA, then I cannot turn my back on a “one-stop” trip to shop.
Pantene shampoo-same bottle-same amount==between $7-7.50 at other stores, and 4.90-5.00 at Wal-Mart.
Paper towels—toilet paper—liquid laundery soap—downey refills—table napkins—dishwaher soap- bar soap-Coca Cola 2 liter-Rid-x for septic-new shower curtain-peanut butter- light bulbs-strawberry jam- bread-butter-eggs-Velveeta-Ritz crackers-Anything in the pharmacy area for over the counter stuff-even a new 50’ hose—oils and filters to change in both car and truck-Meguier’s to wax horse trailers and truck-Scope-chapstick-notebook paper-Banker’s boxes to store data-——
There’s a good comparison: Banker’s boxes at Staples or other: $3.49 to $4.50 EACH box. I can get 10 in a bundle at Wal-Mart for $13.99. As a bookkeeper, I use a fair number of these storage boxes.
If I have to watch every penny, which I do, I cannot go to 6 stores and buy at higher prices when I can be in one store for alot of items.
They absolutely do not have everything, but get off your elite high horse about Wal-Mart. They are especially needed in all the small towns that they serve.
On a 9 weekstrip across the Pony Express trail in 2001, I was really happy to see all the places Wal-Mart existed.

Absolutely great idea! The waiter wants the Marxist, he gets the Marxism to go along with it. To the waiter: “welcome to the world of socialism, bonehead.”

Hard for me to blame the Republicans for creating the melt-down on Wall Street and in the banking industry, when it was all started in 1977 (31 years ago) by Jimmah Carter and fomented by Bill Clinton, Janet Reno, and Henry Cisneros to “let everyone have their own house”.
Funny, also, how this all seemed to happen 2 months before a General Election.
Who is masterminding all this???y
Would the banking collapse have even happened if Chuckie Schumer had not made the remarks about IndyMac bank?????
I think he yelled fire inside the movie theater.

The rest of the story:
Next time you go to that restaurant and get that waiter, he will give you lousy service, and the panhandler still won’t do anything for you.

Yup, and that exactly explains why leftist socialism/communism never works.

MM, just how has the war in Iraq been "catastrophic"?

Other than the media's opinion, how do you conclude that the war in Iraq is "unpopular"?

Are you going to provide any details, or is this another drive-by snarl?

This was not really addressed to those who are limited in funds and really need the bargains at Wal-Mart. It was addressed to people who can afford to eat in restaurants and stiff people who are paid 1/2 the minimum wage in favor of people who may or may not be interested in working at all.

My Father demonstrated this to me by pooling my allowance with my sister’s and splitting it between us. I was older and had more chores, and, hence, a larger allowance so my sister got a good deal.

I’ve been a fanatic capitalist and conservative ever since then.

However, my sister who received a cut of my allowance became a flaming liberal.

.

Yes! So many areas this could work in, individually and corporately.

And, tell any Obama-supporting neighbors (doing better than you) that you'll be regularly borrowing their pool/boat/quad/motorcycle/snowmobile/cool toys under Obama's spread-the-wealth philosophy.
