A relative says that Barack Obama's 85-year-old grandmother broke her hip recently and is gravely ill.
Obama's great-uncle, Charles Payne, tells The Associated Press that his sister, Madelyn Payne Dunham, hasn't been well for a long time, and that she fell and broke her hip recently. Payne spoke with The Associated Press in a brief telephone interview Tuesday from his home in Chicago.

The brief article goes on to mention that Obama's sister is caring for their grandmother and that Mrs. Dunham's 86th birthday is this Sunday.
Prayers up for Mrs. Dunham.

Barack Obama's 85-year-old grandmother broke her hip recently and is gravely ill. Being thrown under the bus will do that to you. Osteoperosis is a "typical white woman" disease anyway. But in all seriousness, I'm sorry to hear it.

Gosh I hate it that my observation of the political animal for the last 50 years has made me such a skeptic, but I find it pretty coincidental that Obama’s grandmother is seriously ill, in Hawaii, just when the lawsuit questioning his birth certificate is heating up a bit.
Prayers, sincerely, for his grandmother. My skepticism is aimed at him, certainly not her!

Prayers lifted for a woman who loved, and provided for a child, who then turned around, and used her confidences for political/philosophical commentary.

It’s a shame hearing that any elderly person is having health problems. Prayers for his grandmother, that she makes a full recovery.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Though it's lucky the hip broke during the Bush Administration.
Under Obama's health care plan, she'd already be dead.

I wish the best for Mrs. Dunham. I read elsewhere that she has osteoporosis, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy -- my aunt was disabled by it for a signficant portion of her life.
His grandmother stepped up and took care of Barry when no one else in his family wanted to be bothered with him. She deserves better.

You are WAY out of line here! Holy cow! I though DU posters were bad. Are you a DU troll, trying to make Freepers look bad?
I hope his grandmother recovers. A broken hip is very serious.

She is 85 and 0bama is 47? the mother and grandmother both had children at a very young age I guess.
I hope she is all right. I suppose if she doesn’t make it loads of morons will vote for him just because of “sympathy.”

Would you please show some decency and keep the crass comments off this thread? My thanks to those who have risen above petty politics to wish Mrs. Dunham well.

None of us doubt Mrs. Dunham is ill, we wish for a good recovery even at age 86, which is tough.
That said, I don’t trust the slick and slimy Obama camp. I see a dual reason for leaving the campaign trail.

I mentioned this in another thread. Obama is waiting 3 days to visit his “gravely ill” grandmother because?

Man that’s not good for her. Survival rates for people that age who break their hip is not good. My father broke his a year ago, and passed away this summer.

NObama’s mother was 17.
Heal well and quickly, Toot.
Does she still live on the 10th floor?
