It takes more than a couple of hours to secure a site, and set up. It doesn’t appear that he ever really intended on making this trip. Sounds like his campaign got the heads up to get back to HI on last Saturday.

Decided to fake appearances at IA and WI - hoping to throw McCain off in the interim and make their HI trip appear as a last minute decision late Monday. When in reality, they made the decision on Saturday due to the lawsuit.
